What is your opinion on the FNM, Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas singer? Despite his diverse range of vocal styles and equally diverse side projects he is surely one of the most overlooked musician/singer, songwriters around? As much as I adore FNM where I heard him first he has made so much more innovative music in his long career without ever staying around in one genre for any length of time. He appears on such a huge body of work which isn't to everyone's taste but great to explore. Favourite albums;
Fantomas: The Director's Cut
Tomahawk: Mit Gas
FNM: Angeldust
Mr. Bungle: California

Patton is painfully under-rated!! I don't even know if that is an accurate description.. Over-looked I think is better. In order for someone to over or under-rate you, they have to notice you. I think the man is an amazing singer and incredible front man. Faith No More is probably my favorite band next to Pearl Jam. Patton's range of singing styles is just amazing and his influence on modern music can be heard without looking to far..
Patton is the man!None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

I think he'd be an awesome producer or songwriter. But as a preformer I always find myself uninterested in what he does or is trying to do.0 -

talent, vocal stylings and all, if the end result leaves you unmoved...then how is it any different than elevator music?0

I opened this thread while I was already listening to Mr. Bungle's California album, so off that bat I think that answers this question.
I am a huge Patton fan, the dude is just top notch amazing. Out of everything he's done, even including FNM my favorite album is Peeping Tom. That is one of the greatest album ever released in my opinion. Even though there is so much hip hop influence on it, and I'm far from a hip hop fan, that album just blows me away every single time I listen to it. I mean seriously: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZA-NU08 ... re=related
The dude even released an album that was in all Italian and even though I don't understand one word he says it still sounds great. The man is a genius.* Cincinnati, OH 8.20.2000 *

In my opinion he's one of the greatest artist ever, saw him live with few different projects and those were one of the best shows I've ever seen. Amazing singer and songwriter!!Chorzów 2007 - Berlin 2009 - Berlin 2010 - Gdynia 2010 - Berlin 2012 - Berlin 2012 - Stockholm 2012 - EV Manchester 2012 - Milan 2014 - Trieste 2014 - Vienna 2014 - Berlin 2014 - Gdynia 2014 - Rio 2018 - Sao Paulo 20180

In 2009 I went to two concerts of bands I hadn't really listened to since the early '90s - Pearl Jam & FNM. The day after PJ's show I rebought all albums, joined the fan club, 2 & half years later I'm still on the PJ fanclub messageboard everyday, went to Ed in Oz, am going to PJ20 etc etc yet I still don't own a FNM album. I used to think Mike was really cute but the show I went to did nothing for me vs PJ's signed me up for life. JMHO.<hr>

I don't think either. The people that like him love him and the rest of us think he's awful. I think he deserves both. I hear a great voice in short little flashes, but he does so much gibberish bullshit stuff that's supposed to be impressive but really just undermines what talent he does have.0

One of the greatest vocalists and frontmen of all time. I don't think anything will top seeing the 1st Faith No More reunion show at the Brixton.0

I don't really know if he is under-rated or overrated. When you read reviews etc he seems to be lauded as a "genius" which sounds a bit OTT but he is also under-rated because he is not known much in the mainstream media (which is probably a good thing really!)
Personally I'm a huge fan though, and I do think he probably IS a bit of a genius, musically. I loved FNM about 20 years ago and then lost track of them. In fact I only recently found out about his side projects about a year ago (didn't even know he was still around before then) and have been blown away by some of the stuff he's done over the past 10 years or so. It's been a bit of a learning curve!
Lovage - just love love love this album - hope there is some truth in the rumours of a follow-up
Mondo Cane - his italian one - love the unexpectedness and beauty of this. Best tracks are track Deep Deep Down, Quella Che Conta, and Senza Fine
Kaada Patton - really unusual and different, esp considering he is essentially a metal singer
I am the dead - haunting tune
Peeping Tom - like the album but can't see it going anywhere
Crudo - has a lot of potential but not sure if he will build on it.
Tomahawk - not as familiar with this but like what I've heard - really like this one too: God Hates a Coward: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fv ... yvMOI&NR=1
Fantomas - not that familiar with this one, seems to appeal to me the least for some reason, but will prob check it out sometime
Of all his projects, I would kill to see Mondo Cane live, and maybe lovage. The Amsterdam shows on Youtube are amazing (and I must say, he does scrub up well in a suit!!)

I was lucky enough to see him live with Mondo Cane and it's fantastic piece of music...my favourite Mike's project beside FNMChorzów 2007 - Berlin 2009 - Berlin 2010 - Gdynia 2010 - Berlin 2012 - Berlin 2012 - Stockholm 2012 - EV Manchester 2012 - Milan 2014 - Trieste 2014 - Vienna 2014 - Berlin 2014 - Gdynia 2014 - Rio 2018 - Sao Paulo 20180 -
