I'm seeing them for the first time tonight. Anybody here going? I've never seen them live but I like a lot of their music. Do they put on a good show? To tell you the truth, I've sort of forgot about them over the last 10 years or so. Hopefully it's a good show but it's at a casino and I hear casinos like to cut setlists short so people have more time to gamble.

Seen them live twice.....both were excellent showsAll the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.0

saw them live last september, and they rocked pretty good. Scott sounded good, and they threw in some cool jams too, but the 20 song set list was a little disappointing, especially cause I wanted to hear more!MSG II 5/21/10

Don't get me wrong STP will be a great show. However, this idea of them playing Casino's is lame. Casino's don't usually let bands have openers and its not a legit concert experience. No offence to STP cuz they were rocking in their prime, but they are taking the easy way out by playing small casino shows because they are super safe (ticket sales, promo, booking, etc). Fans won't be able to party it up in the audience as much as an arena. Maybe if Scott Weiland was one tenth as dedicated to his fans as Ed and co STP would be getting ready to go on tour with the Jam right now. The saddest thing is that the band is great and they have been hung out to dry by Scott. Milk it STP, lol.0

I thought Weiland put on a better show with Velvet Revolver. Was pretty disappointed seeing STP.0

Saw them in '08 after missing out on seeing them in the 90's and they didn't disappoint. Was 5 rows back and they kicked things off with "Big Empty" and Scott sounded perfect, they still have it.0

I'll be seeing them next Tuesday, let me know how it goes0

Back in the day, they put on one of the best shows! Now, it's more hit-n-miss with them. It'll be fun, but don't get overly excited as that's when they tend to disappoint."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." Mark Twain0

after seeing both bands twice each, I'd also agree. STP is awesome live, but VR kicked serious ass. Weiland lit up the stage with his swagger with VR.Gimli 1993

STP was one of the best concerts i've been to when i saw them @ the borgata recently. i really need a ticket to their show in newark now.. and to think i was going to sell my ticket because of the 5 hour ride to the showPJ: 9/29/04, 5/12/06, 5/13/06, 6/22/08, 6/24/08, 6/25/08, 6/27/08, 6/30/08, 10/30/09, 10/31/09, 5/18/10, 5/20/10, 5/21/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 10/18/13, 8/7/16

Well I don't care what their motivations are or that they started almost an hour late, that show kicked serious ass last night. It was general admission, so we were right up on the stage on the bassist's side. They came out strong and never let up. I love Weiland's mannerisms and the band's jams. He may be the dude I've seen that can rock the skinny jeans. They didn't just play radio hits, either. We heard a couple songs from their newest album which sounded great live, especially Hickory Dichotomy. I have no idea what it means but it sounds good. Their encore kicked major ass, also. The length certainly isn't on par with PJ concerts, but the quality was fantastic. I definitely recommend checking them out if they come anywhere near you.
As a side note, you have to walk through the casino to get to where the concert was and to leave to get to the parking lot. Judging by the number of people there, you cannot tell me the economy is doing that bad.62698 E Troy, 81800 Indy, 42303 Champagne, 42503 Cleveland, 10204 Toledo, 10304 Grand Rapids, 91105 Kitchener, 51606 Chicago, 51706 Chicago, 62606 St. Paul, 8507 Chicago, 82109 Toronto, 82309 Chicago, 82409 Chicago, 5910 Cleveland, 9311 E Troy, 9411 E Troy, 91111 Toronto, 92112 Pensacola, 71913 Chicago, 101113 Pittsburgh, 101213 Buffalo UPCOMING: Cincy, Lincoln, Detroit, Moline, St Paul, Milwaukee0 -

I have a VR "Contraband" LP for sale, anyone interested? PM me.0 -

I disagree. I think the music for VR really allowed him to turn it up a notch. Most of STP's bigger tunes were mid tempo whereas that first VR album is one uptempo tune after another. The time I caught VR he was more animated and moved around as much or more than ANY performance I've seen from him with STP0 -

Swagger I would agree with, but performance wise I think he was pretty close. Although when I saw VR at Virgin Festival in 2007, as they were ending with Slither it started to lightly rain and it might have been the most epic thing Ive ever experienced.0 -
STP now compared to STP in the mid 90's is no contest. They used to play a lot longer back then and the energy was electric. They put on some of the best shows I have ever seen back then, and I have seen PJ 29 times. In the dozen STP shows I have seen you could see the gradual regression. Now you get about 17 songs and because of Scott they are hit or miss every night. The DeLeos and Kretz are ALWAYS on fire though. The DeLeos even kicked serious ass live when they were with Army of Anyone. Scott is what makes or breaks their shows and he is too unpredictable. Their setlists, however, have become very predictable. Rob DeLeo does not get along with Scott and it shows when they play live these days as opposed to back in the day.
So, in summation, if you've never been, definitely worth the experience. If you have been, no need to see the same show over and over again because that's what it is these days.
And yes, Scott was different when Contraband was being supported with VR. He was also very different in his solo shows. As a matter of fact, when I saw him supporting Happy in Galoshes I had NEVER seen him as happy as he was then around his band mates and enjoying what he was doing.
Here is a show I went to in the 90's:
MSG - NYC:
Pop's Love Suicide
Crackerman
Meatplow
Tumble in the Rough
Vasoline
Still Remains
Silvergun Superman
Wicked Garden
Daisy (Acoustic)
Dancing Days (Acoustic)
Creep (Acoustic)
Pretty Penny (Acoustic)
Seven Caged Tigers (Acoustic)
Sweet Emotion (w/ Steven Tyler and Joe Perry)
Lick And A Promise (w/ Steven Tyler and Joe Perry)
Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart
Plush
Piece of Pie
Big Empty
Interstate Love Song
Lounge Fly
Lady Picture Show
Unglued
Big Bang Baby
Dead and Bloated
Sex Type Thing
I went to a couple others that I cannot find setlists for, like Stabler Arena in 1997 which had a similar setlist.
Here's what you get in recent tours:
Crackerman
Heaven And Hotrods
Wicked Garden
Vasoline
Between the Lines
Hickory Dichotomy
Still Remains
Big Empty
Silvergun Superman
Plush
Interstate Love Song
Huckleberry Crumble
Down
Sex Type Thing
Dead And Bloated
Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart
Quite a difference! I love them, but it just seems like it is for the $$ now.
Shit they even made their latest album in locations separate from each other.0 -

Wow, great summary.
I saw them for the first time last summer (and the setlist was almost identical to the second one listed above; I noticed that whole tour they would change out literally just two songs). It was a good show, but not outstanding.
Part of it is sentimentality on my part: it's fun to sing out loud to the songs I was listening to when I was 14 years old. To hear them played well makes the experience that much better.
And, I went with my brother and my 14-year-old nephew -- there aren't many bands that I'll be able to see with him that I listened to when I was his age, and that he likes. This is special to me.0 -
Hi Rob :wave:all you need is love, love is all you need0

they're here tonight. thinking about trying to get a cheap ticket around showtime. This show, another show, a show here and a show there.0

Sorry but I gotta disagree, STP in their prime were virtually untouchable, and Scott moved around plenty (and they had far more classic songs than VR:

I've seen Scott numerous times with both STP and VR, and nothing will beat the time I saw STP in London about ten years ago - I'd rate it as being up there with any show by pretty much any band I've seen.0
