Alpine PJ20 question - lawn seating - bring lawn chairs?

Wondering if for the day that we're in the lawn area should we bring a lawn chair or blanket? Do people really setup lawn chairs and blankets and keep their same spots the entire day? Don't know what you would do with the lawn chairs once PJ starts and everyone is packed in together. Anyway, just wondering if we need to pack this stuff with us for the flight or just leave it at home. Thanks in advance for advice from anyone who has been to Apline before!

I can't imagine chairs will be allowed in, but I'm sure blankets will be.

    From pj20.com:
Are chairs allowed on the lawn?
Beach chairs are fine to be brought in as long as they’re no more than 5” off the ground.

Wow, I can't believe they are allowing it. Wait until people(not in the 10 Club) find out they can't go in the PJ center area of the lawn area. Yikes.

Personally, I'd stick with a blanket - less to lug around and you won't have to worry about it once PJ starts!

When I saw in the PJ20 FAQs that you can bring chairs in, I was pretty surprised. I don't think I've ever seen anyone sitting in a chair on the lawn at Alpine Valley.

You definitely want to bring a blanket or something similar, though. I've been to shows where we've forgotten them and it kinda sucks.

I'd call them to make sure. I haven't seen anyone allowed to bring chairs in to a amphitheater like that in a long time. At least to shows I've been to. It just doesn't seem worth the risk to me for venues to allow it.

Is it ok to pre-empitvely tackle someone that is about to throw a chair?

I have seen shows where if chairs were available, people would get hurt. I don't see this idea as having more reward than risk.

i talked to Alpine venue and they said that in the lawn tickets there are rows and seat printed on the tickets, even there are no seats in the lawn area, cos they want all have their space,be safe and control the over selling of the lawn..the space has everyone in the lawn is like has a chair on it..
but i think people bring chairs in the lawn area will be dangerous as for safety

Maybe someone will throw a chair at Josh Homme...100% joking. :) I hope this was an oversight and they not allow chairs. With how steep it is that I've heard, I'm not sure there would be much benefit anyhow.

Too much alcohol + chairs = people thinking they are funny by throwing a chair.

Maybe it was just that it was Phish, but when I was at their recent festival at Watkins Glen (~35,000 people), I brought a lawn chair to one of the sets and set myself up probably a quarter of the venue length from the stage, and people were totally respectful, and maybe even gave me more room. I also saw plenty of other lawn chairs, many of which tended to congregate towards the less dense back of the field. My guess is it would be similar at the Pearl Jam festival, but perhaps that is a naive thought.

I don't think it is naive at all. I just think on the outside chace people get too pumped, drunk, angry, whatever...ther will be a "weapon of opportunity" at hand. It's dangerous enough with chunks of sod (been there) being tossed.
Also, how about all the comfortable 10c lawn area peeps that will get innundated when PJ takes the stage and the barrier is removed? those non-GA writband people are maybe going to feel entitled now to claim their (your) ground. Seems like a small payoff (chairs) for a potentialy costly outcome.

I thought it seemed like a strange idea to bring a lawn chair, and all of the responses have solidified this thought. I like the idea of bringing a small blanket in your backpack.

Just as long as Terry Funk doesn't ask for a chair then hopefully everything should be fine...

Low Back chairs should be fine. As far as throwing chairs mayeb they should start checking ID's at the gate to make sure entrants are ADULTS.

From Shoreline Amp rules as a reference guide, I know the show is in WI.... lol

    General Rules:
All shows go on RAIN OR SHINE.

Low Back Beach Chairs are permitted
NO smoking in the seated or lawn areas, but is permitted in the plaza areas only.
Soft sided coolers may be brought in to events if "6-pack" size or smaller.
    Blankets allowed for most shows.

The Following items are also NOT allowed:
CANS, BOTTLES, CAMERAS, ALCOHOL, VIDEO EQUIPMENT, FIREWORKS, SKATEBOARDS,
FRISBEES, PETS, AEROSOL CANS, PROFESSIONAL CAMERAS W/DETACHABLE LENSES, TAPE RECORDERS, COOKING EQUIPMENT.

***ITEMS SUBJECT TO CHANGE ON EVENT BY EVENT BASIS***
Please check Shoreline website on day of show for most recent information www.Shorelineamp.com

If it says Beach Chairs (not lawn chairs) are OK. I was wondering if the pitch of the lawn would make them practical. I wish someone would chime in on this who has Alpine Valley experience.

IMO, the risk that someone would take someone else's beach chair and throw it is pretty minimal. People in the 10C section will be more mature than that.

There is a bigger risk of 10C members trying to hold spots for non-10C members and then others feeling entitled to push through also. Essentially though, I think once people get established in the lawn it should be civil, including beach chairs. If an interloper comes along during PJ's set, everyone around them should just tell them to keep moving. But it's not going to be a mosh pit, people will be focused on the show. That is why people took the trouble to get there.

It appears they rent lawn chairs at the venue. This is from the employee web site:

    Merchandise
The Merchandise department consists of the rental of lawn chairs, limos/oversized vehicle parking sales, and VIP/Premium parking sales during events at Alpine Valley Music Theatre. We are looking for motivated people willing to be on their feet for sometimes long hours. Rate: $8.75/hour
