When you're making money by putting your name on a clothing line sewn by children in third world countries I think you have a responsibility to do more than fuck the whole of New York and play baseball. If he was just to get paid for playing baseball I'd have less of a problem with it. He's been a good-great player for a long time, but my favorite athletes are people who tried changing the world while also playing at a high-level. I prefer people like Steve Nash, Yovani Gallardo, Pedro Martinez, Curt Shilling (even if I don't agree with him) to a guy who "just plays the game" the world is bigger than that.

Oh stop, he's a fucking athlete with a high school education. He gets paid millions to play basball and sell products. He doesn't get paid and it's not his responsibility to improve child labor laws in China.

You hate Jeter for all these reasons yet you like Lebron James? Come on dude. You're talking out of your ass. What the fuck has Lebron done to improve the life of anyone not associated with Lebron?
You're exactly right LeBron is definitely a massive sellout...I like him for different reasons - partly because he is exactly someone I should hate. He did once help Boys and Girls Clubs, and has run up a massive tab in Vegas so the people serving him made something.

I disagree though, LeBron, Jordan, Jetes put their name on those products it is their responsibility to know where those products come from. If they don't do endorsements "just play the game" all you want.
Have you forgotten about Jeters Turn Two Foundation and what it does for kids?

BOO YAH!!! My man Derek Jeter hits a homer for his 3000th hit, the 2nd person to ever hit a homer for #3000 (Wade Boggs was the other; Thank you, Michael Kay)

Glad he got it while I was watching, and hope he's able to pick it up somehow, because you dont go from hitting .334 to .270 just by one offseason (2009 - .334. 2010 - .270). That is baseball, though.

Maybe some guys just lose it when they get older, which is what I think the case may be. But thats for another day.

    Congrats Derek!

congrats to Jeter for 3000 and doing it with a 5 for 5 day. he is an all-timer. as for the guy hating on Derek Jeter some people just have to be haters of anything and everything. it's sad. if you hate the guy then stay out of a thread congratulating a guy on an awesome accomplishment that only 28 players in the history of the game have ever done. well done Derek.

I promise I'll drop it after this, and yes 3000 hits is quite an accomplishment, but what would make me like him is if he just admitted he was Derek "Fucking" Jeter instead of playing the consummate professional bullshit. This dude still hits at the top of the lineup even though he shouldn't because he's Derek "Fucking" Jeter, he made a better SS move to 3B even though he hasn't fielded a ball to his left in a decade because he's Derek "Fucking" Jeter, he won't learn the OF because he's Derek "Fucking" Jeter, he lives in a 40k foot house because he's Derek "Fucking" Jeter, and yet you all want me to believe he's a nose to the grindstone hardworking humble man. I call bullshit. As soon as the camera's are off he's Derek "Fucking" Jeter, and as soon as they are on he's yes sir m...m...mr. steinbrenner sir. The All-Star Game is further evidence of this. He takes the game off for "emotional" rest and gets fellated by Bud Selig, are you kidding me? Rather than say he needed an "emotional" break why doesn't he come clean and say I'm Derek Fucking Jeter and I'm going to take this weekend to go bang my wife now stop asking stupid questions. Brett Favre used to be the same way until he got too old, started sending dick pics, and revealed himself to the rest of us what we all already knew but pretended not to - an arrogant jerk who played the media right for 15 years. This is why I hate Derek Jeter, but would love him if he just admitted the truth.

Watched a documentary on this last week. He had cameras following him everywhere leading up to his 3000th hit. He lives a nice life!

It was a really cool documentary. He does have a nice life and what makes him cool is I don't think he flaunts it, and I don't think he's ashamed of it either. It looks like he has a great family structure around him and in today's world for a superstar to never have negative press, be the biggest star on the biggest team in the country, and play in the media circus of the world and come out unscathed. Just straight wow. Quality individual and future HOFer.
