Saw Stevie Ray Vaughan open for Robert Plant in 1989(?). It was during the Now and Zen tour. He died a year later. Such a shame.

A few that come to mind...

Devin Townsend - This guy scared the SHIT out of me when he started playing. He genuinely looked insane, and since I was up front I felt like I had no choice but to nod along to the music. But, it was actually really good. The guitar playing had a different quality to it, heavy but atmospheric, and his transitions from metal screams to operatic singing were mesmerizing.

Cynic - Same show I saw Devin open, Cynic also played. They were a bit different, more progressive metal, with vocoder'd vocals. Instead of being put off, I found them to be a damn good band.

Bad Religion - Saw them open Night 3 of the Spectrum shows, and I had never heard anything by them before. Their performance really impressed me, I found myself jamming along to the music even though I didn't know a single song. Unfortunately their recorded output didn't really stick with me, but it was a damn good show.

Funeral Party - Saw them open for Dillinger Escape Plan and Deftones this May. The singer was really raw live, and he had a lot of energy, so it was pretty contagious. Sadly their debut record didn't sound nearly as good or energetic as the live versions I heard (mostly just overproduced), but since it's their first album, I think they have promise.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!
