Finger Eleven opening up for Fuel and the Roots at my school back in 1998. And then a year later Boyhitscar opening for Finger Eleven at the TLA. Too bad Finger Eleven switched their sound to get on the radio. Loved their first 2 albums before "One thing"

I would have to say the Dirty Projectors opening for Hella. Valient Thorr opening for Mastodon was pretty sweet as well.

    few more which i remembered:

Sons & Daughters opening up for Franz Ferdinand in '05. Fun indie rock band from Scotland

The Shys opening up for The Subways in '06. I bought their demo album at the show afterwards (which later would become "Astoria") Haven't heard much from them since though. :?

22-20's opening up for The Whigs & Band Of Skulls earlier this year. I thought they were great live and had a good sound. Got a free live EP from them. Can't find any of their albums though, their from the UK. Did some research and found they formed in '02, broke up in '05 and reformed in '08. They supposedly ahve an album that came out this year.

Also The Whigs a few times (once for Kings Of Leon and again at a festival)

Alice In Chains Edinburgh Playhouse 90(?) ... supported The Almighty and Headliners Megadeth

Facelift hadn't been released in Europe ... they were unbelievable and blew both other bands.

  • I saw The Kills open for The Black Keys at what was essentially a middle school gymnasium in Toledo a few years back. Hadn't heard anything about them before hand and was blown away by there show. There couldn't have been many more than a 100 or so people at the show at that point. Cool experience. Even better, Alison Mosshart was hanging out with the crowd before the black keys went on stage.

Middle school Gymnasium? Wow those must be some middle schools you attended! LOL! Joking around. I live outside Toledo, it's my home town. I was at that show. And The Kills were simply amazing.

Collective Soul open for Live @ The Hammerstein Ballroom. I was shocked by how they kicked ass.
collective soul is a great live band, and pretty decent over all musically. seen them twice.

Primus opening for Rush.... okay, that wasn't unintentional, but it was awesome.
Street Sweeper Social Club opening for NIN/Jane's Addiction, they were a ton of fun.
Tenacious D opening for Foos and QotSA... short but hilarious.
I wish I could say Balkan Beat Box opening for Gogol Bordello, but I knew BBB was terrific going in.
Katie Miller-Heideke opening for Ben Folds was amazing also.

Is there a thread for WORST opener? Because that's a LOOOOONG list.
Is it too much to ask for a full-blown Temple of the Dog set? Probably.

I saw Janes Addiction supporting Fields of The Nephilim in 1988 at Brixton Academy. I had no idea who Janes Addiction were - I didn't even know their name until after they played. They were fucking incredible. Blew the roof off the place. Best opening act hands down.

I had the fortunate opportunity of seeing Jane's Addiction live. It wasn't back in the 80's or early 90's, 2003 actually... but it was still fucking awesome. To this day I still feel that Jane's Addiction is one of the best live bands ever. Almost as if they were meant to be live and their stuff is better live than on record.

I saw Green Day open for Die Toten Hosen a long time ago when they weren't famous yet (at least not here in Germany). I was sorta shocked, cause they spit in each other's mouths and stuff, but I was impressed with their energy and although I didn't become a huge fan I listened to them a lot for a certain time afterwards.

I saw Muse open for U2 in 2009, they were fantastic, then saw them on their own in NYC, great live band

I saw KOL open for U2 a few times back in 2005, they sounded terrible, but I think it was the sound systems, they were great on their own tour.

    Social Distortion opening for PJ

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club opening for KOL and I also saw them open for STP

The National opening for Arcade Fire
