youngster wrote:Just got back from the show and it was amazing. Let me just start off by saying Glen Hansard is an amazing musician. If you get a chance to see him before Eddie do it. He is great. The first 6 or 7 songs were all Uke songs and then Ed got down to business. Some hightlights.
Around the Bend and I am Mine back to back was stunning. So much energy and the crowd really got into it. Immortality was phenomenal and reminded me of the Immagine in Cornice DVD. Such a great tune. Before Arc he said he wanted to say a prayer for his friend Howard Zinn, then proceeded to blow the audience away with a great rendition. Ed and Glen broke out laughing halfway through Sleepless Nights but finished strong. Sounded way better than the studio version. My wife wore a Crazy Mary themed shirt and was shocked when he actually played it. Then Ed popped some champagne, passed out cups to the front row and poured them all some bubbly. Then the crowd started chanting, "Let's go Bruins" and Ed saluted the B's for winning the cup. Said after the Boston PJ show last year a couple players who went to the show were in the locker room after the concert and Ed learned of what happened to them in Philly last year. Said they had to have that happen to them to get where they are today. High energy Porch and Hard Sun to close it out.
Ed was very gracious and thanked us for being a great crowd. Awesome awesome show. It will be tough to top.
Add on to the Youk thing: Ed said he named his uke Kevin and then he used the Uke as a bat and proceeded to mimic Youk's batting stance. Classic.0 -
Thats a Nice setlist, hope the next couple shows match up as well...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...0

Thanks for all the posts.
What time did opening set start?
What time did Ed hit the stage? There are two kinds of women, one that takes your strength, and one that gives you strength

Another great show from one of rock n' rolls greatest performers. It is so great to watching the people in the in white lab coats bringing out a new guitar after each song , at one point Ed has three behind where he sits and you wonder which will he play next. Each has such a different sound starting with the ukuleles for the first 5-6 songs than going through so many different guitars just amazing.
All the songs sounded great but the highlights for me were Speed of Sound, Unthought Known,Crazy Mary,Imortality,Wishlist, Deadman Walking and the Bruce Springsteen cover Open All Night. That song in particular was great and when he played the first few notes I thought he was goung the play Johnny 99 from the same record. If you ever get a chance pick up Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen it is just a great collection of Bruce solo on acustic guitar, every song is great you can see how much influance Bruce has in Eddie's music.
Well I am ready for Hartford on Saturday night . I am taking my 10 year old son who's first love in music has been " Into The Wild " should be a great experince for him to see how many great sounds can be made by one person on a stringed instument !!96 NY II ,CT, / 98 NJ, MSG I & II , DC, MD

from what i recall, not too much was said for howard zinn other than how much he meant to eddie and he dedicated the arc to him. for the other question about his instruments...he completely mixes up the uke with guitair and mandolin. i am in the best mood today, this was one of the most special perfomances i have seen during his solo tours.0

This was my first ev show and I was left speechless. He is truly amazing. I really can't say anything more than what has been said here already, except that the way arc was done was mindblowing. I think he did a great job of mixing it up; new uke stuff, itw and classic pj. Unbelievable night, and unforgettable as well.0

Glen started right on time at 7:30.
Ed came on at 8:40."What can you expect when you're on top? You know? It's like Napoleon. When he was the king, you know, people were just constantly trying to conquer him, you know, in the Roman Empire. So, it's history repeating itself all over again."0 -

Out of curiosity, was it the full version of Unthought Known or was it the shortened version that was on the Water on the Road DVD?
Full version, it was phenomenal...... after PJ opened w/ it in Hartford last year, and now having seen it last night, it's quickly become one of my favorite live tunes.
And yeah, Speed of Sound was legendary... looking forward to taking my gf to Hartfor for our anniversary Saturday!0 -

FULL VERSION...AND IT WAS FANTASTIC. Crowd gave a standing ovation after it.0 -

There were still a bunch of posters for sale as we were walking out. In addition to the merch stand, there was a separate table just for poster sales. Both seemed to have plenty.
Yippee! That's very helpful to know as I strategerize for the Beacon

Immortality was definitely the highlight of the show for me, followed closely by Crazy Mary and the Sleepless Nights duo with Glen. The toast of the B's was pretty cool, as was Ed's story about having a few pops with some B's players last year after the Garden show. I can promise you that you will not be disappointed, Immortality or not.
We were able to see all of Glen's set. He is damn talented.
10c pulled through again for us. Row E center on the aisle.0 -
Great show.
Most of it has been stated already, though I must mention Dead Man Walking...definitely one of the highlights for me...phenomenal.
The Uke stuff translated very well live, Ed seemed to be in a great mood and the whole show was top shelf.
Great hanging with some of you fakkahs before the show. This weekend we rock Portland0 -

I saw a few flashes going off during the show, I probably could have snuck a couple shots in if I had a camera, but I did see the ushers asking people to put their phones away when they had them out.
The show got over about 10:30.0
