Eddie Vedder at #7. Kurt Cobain at 10 and Chris Cornell at 9.

In 1990 Eddie Vedder was working at a gas station when his buddy Jack Irons gave him a demo tape of a Seattle band searching for a new singer. While surfing, Vedder came up with lyrics for the three songs and sent the tape back to the band with his contributions. They were blown away and Vedder was soon asked to join what became Pearl Jam. One of the songs on that tape, "Alive," was blaring out of countless bedrooms across America within about a year. Since then Vedder has become one of the most imitated singers in rock, but nobody has come close to matching his ferocious wail.

Finally, a list with nirvana/kurt in an understandable position. No way in hell should he be above any of them.

Bono is above Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, Roger Daltrey, Eddie Vedder and John Lennon? Oh well, I guess any list is going to generate some sort of debate. I would say John Lennon should probably be above Ed, but when you consider he wasn't really a "lead singer" and shared vocals with the rest of the Beatles I can see why he was a little further down.

another bad list from RS. i know it's trendy to hate on RS, but come on... jim morrison? bono? robert plant (at number one!?)....
where's brian wilson? he's better than all of them. john lennon at #8? the guy changed the face of music and he's behind jim morrison? what about hendrix?
and i disagree with eddie at #7. sorry. he's awesome, but there's no way he's in the top 10 of all time.

Robert Plant deserves to be in the top 2, right behind Freddy Mercury, without question. Had an enormous range and more vocal power than any rock singer ever(he could keep up with John Bonham without a mic). Also, huge range of styles he could sing covincingly, with tons of dynamics.

Ed deserves to be top 10, based on vocal recognition alone. I think you could put somebody like Axl Rose in there for a similar reason.

The Beatles all work against each other. I always thought George had the nicest voice.

Brian Wilson should be there, but maybe some don't think of him as a singer. Conversations about him usually just involve his overall creativity.

I'd get rid of Jagger and Morrison if we're talkin singers and not front men.

i don't know how anyone could have a conversation about brian wilson and not appreciate his voice... him and carl had two of the nicest voices from the 60s.
and yes, george harrison had an amazing voice.

Well The Beach Boys were mainly a harmony band, I know they had great individual voices and didn't harmonize on every song, but for most people when they think of them they think of them harmonizing, so to that maybe hurt his chances. Everybody in CS&N (and sometimes Y) had beautiful voices, but it's hard to pick one of them out as the lead singer because I always think of how beautiful they sounded together.

I think Bono is a few spots to high up the list. He should be around where Ed is.

I personally wouldn't have him on the top 10 at all, but that's just my opinion.

Not a terrible list...but there is no doubt in my mind that Freddie Mercury needs to be in the #1 spot of any list of lead singers.
