I'm sorry but neither PJ or Nirvana qualify to be compared to the Beatles or The Stones.
Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of both bands but come on folks there is a whole different level of range, cultural impact, quality and consistency. U2 comes close but doesn't qualify either.
I would love to see PJ come out of their hole and experiment, they have the talent. But its a bit of a tired sound. You know have some fun... rock n roll. Why so serious?
Its interesting to note that when Cobain died he was writings songs with complex arrangements (horns etc)... Can you imagine? That would have been cool.
I think you missed my point entirely.
I was talking about how Nirvana blew the doors open for Pearl Jam much like The Beatles blew the doors open for The Rolling Stones.
And hate to break it to you...But The Beatles called it quits...The Stones kept on and didn't break up.
Not that breaking up is bad...It's just how it all went down.
Nirvana collapsed and will never be again
Pearl Jam is still around.
I was playing with the original post which was comparing the Sex Pistols and Clash which neither Pearl Jam or Nirvana are or will ever be as well.0 -
I was actually thinking of paralleling Pearl Jam & Nirvana to The Beatles & Stones.
Both parallels are similar.Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/20140 -
Are Nirvana the most overrated band ever? I think so...I was listening to their Unplugged album the other day, every song sounds similar, same kind of chord sequences. Yes, they wrote some great songs, but Pearl Jam could switch their sound so effortlessly from punk to classic rock, to folky stuff.
Cobain was the poster boy, the good looking, child like singer, who was also a heroin addict, the perfect embodiment of grunge..
Pearl Jam weren't even grunge, and I sometimes wish they were from San Francisco or something, it probably would of helped their career0
