the inner ring imprint that he is refering to is very hard to see. its tiny, and you can only see it if you hold the lp just right.
pjcollectors.com does not provide pictures of this imprint on their website. and as far as i can tell my copy matchs theirs exactly...
Read it again. He doesn't have a friend that's a member of pjcollectors.com. He says that HE HIMSELF is a longtime member of pjcollectors.com and has compared HIS OWN ORIGINAL COPY to the one he got from Ebay.******************************

regardless, he hasnt written back, so id like to hear what he has to say.
what he says is missing from his fake (the inner imprint) isnt missing from mine...he also points out that the colors are different and the writing crappier, on mine they are not at all different.
anyways, id like to wait and hear what the seller told soldieroflove. i think mine is real, until someone proves otherwise.
id also like to hear from some of the other people on here who bought one of the $60 ones...I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...0 -
When a deal is "too good to be true" it usually is.
This $150 record is selling for $60.00 and he has over a dozen of them.
That is a huge 'Red Flag'.
Add to that a fellow member who seems to have nothing but the best interests of fellow fan club members at heart has examined it and believes it to be fake.
He could be wrong, but I would be doing all in my power to protect myself just in case.0 -

i agree with the "to good to be true" and im not accusing soldier of anything at all. i appreciate his input very much....
its very possible that its fake, if thats the case its a damn good fake. but just because i got it at a good price doesnt mean its fake. maybe these werent as rare as people thought....nobody knows how many were made.I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...0 -

Good point....
Not to mention I would guess a perfect knock off might actually be worth $60.00?
Not to me, but if it plays perfect and looks perfect and you are happy with it, then enjoy.0 -

thats what im saying...how can i tell its fake? i personally cannont, and im the only one it matters to...
i would like to hear from others that have a real one or one of the $60 ones...or are they the same?
EDIT: my copy sounds great too...i listened to the whole thing...I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...0 -
I got mine today and have the same comments as southerngarden...the writing on the sleeve is purple...I can see "468 8840-A" on side 1 and "468 8840-B" on side 2 along the inner ring. but I haven't found "olake"
As far as I can tell it matches the picture on pjcollectors.com.
I understand there's a high probability that is is fake and I really don't care. I'd never pay $150+ to get a real one, but to get this one for $45 ($60-25% MS Live cashback), I'm happy.

basically thats how i feel wes...im starting to doubt that its fake though, its not easy to fake a picture disc like this...at least i dont think its that easy...
two people have left the seller positive feedback already about this lp...
can someone with a copy that they think is original tell me where the "olake" is written? in relation to what on the record face?
oh well $60 for a perfect fake is fine with me...the way i look at it, if i wanted to sell it, i could probably get way more than $60 for it. but i wont sell it, its part of my collection now.im happy.I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...0 -

I just took mine out of its frame to look: "ORLAKE" (not olake) is faintly etched 180 degrees (i.e. directly opposite accross the spindle hole) from the "468-884-O+A" etching on side A. Similarly, the ORLAKE is 180 degrees opposite the "468-884-O+B" on side B. Note that those are the exact etchings- NOT "468 8840-A" and "468 8840-B" as you wrote in your post. Double check that etching to be sure it matches.
The orientation of the etching I don't think matters. You said yours goes over the "I" in OFFICIAL, but mine is in-between the I and the cursive "m" in Jam. But given your orientation (and if other records are indeed like mine), your ORLAKE should be written around or near the space between the "a" and top of the "l" in Pearl.
The ORLAKE etch is definitely fainter on both sides, so you'll have to look a bit harder to see it in the light.
Let me know if this helps.0 -

Hey, I didn't buy one of these disputed records off Ebay, but I did want to thank you for taking the time to look. I'm curious to see how this turns out. It would be pretty sweet if about 10 people got REAL copies for $60 a piece. **It also appears that the seller has "wised-up"...as he now has this listed at $150!!
These things might indeed be real. Maybe the guy who earlier claimed they weren't real was just trying to discourage people from bidding so that he could win the auction at a cheaper price???******************************

Sorry my late response but I couldn't check the forum earlier.
1. First of all I have compared the fake copy with my own original copy. So I called no friend or something else.
2. The color of the words "Pearl Jam" on the outside of the plastic sleeve is purple, not black. But the colors, especially the organge on the record are slightly different. You can only see it if you have both copies in fron of you.
3. As some of you have told they could find the imprint on the inner ring I have checked the fake copy again. Indeed it's there BUT very very badly viewable. On the original copy you see it very clearly. That also shows that you can not find the word "ORLAKE" or only very bad viewable on the inner ring because it's just a copy of the original.
4. I have made some pics of the fake:
In the first pic you can see the catalog number and "PX" which is printed on the backside of the insert. The numbers are grey but on the original copy they are clearly purple. You can see it also on the PJCollectors site. On the other pic you can see the bad printing on the bottom. Compare it to the original which is printed clearly.
5. I have started a Paypal complaint. I can ship the record back to the seller (on my own costs!!!) and he will refund my money. I think this shows everything. How can he have so many copies? I have spoken with other Pearl Jam collectors. They have found fake copies on European record fairs for 20 Euro or 25 Dollar.
So that's all I can say. Now you can make your own decision. Maybe the seller has also shipped originals but I really doubt this.
Edit: These are the exact etchings: "468-884-0+A'" and "ORLAKE" on side A and "468-884-0+B"One hand will wash the other!0 -

I have ORLAKE on both sides of my vinyl. You sure it isn't on both sides of your original copy?0 -

Just for comparison to help in sorting this all out, here's a scan of my insert in comparison to the "fakes" listed here:

Holy crap...now I'm SUPER confused. So, just to be sure....the one you received from the Ebayer for $60 is on the LEFT. The one that soldier of love claims to have gotten is on the RIGHT. So you both got something different? The one on the right definitely looks like a fake....but that one on the left looks good to me. Weird.******************************

Oh, sorry- this is my own copy- I did NOT purchase one from the ebayer. soldier's is one purchased from the ebayer.
My copy is on the left. soldier's ebay purchase is on the right.0 -

Got it....so what we have is an Ebayer selling absolute FAKES. Bummer...it's too bad when stuff like this happens to good Pearl Jam fans.******************************

Thanks Andy for your pics. I have written the wrong color for the catalog number and the "PX". They are purple of course.

No problem. I figured that, since I have the record right next to me whenever I'm at my computer, I might as well try and help.0 -
