Here's more of a just for fun topic:
How many of you politically opinionated people would consider dating someone that held political opinions that were severely in conflict with your own? Have you ever dated someone that had a generally different political outlook? How did it work out?

Currently I am, and it is the best relationship I have ever been in. We balance each other out pretty well. how about you?that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders
It is terrifying when you are too stupid to know who is dumb

I've dated one person who had fairly different political opinions, and really, it never came up. But then, she wasn't the most political person in the world.
I was asking because I'm using an online dating service, and was wondering if someone who was currently reading a Noam Chomsky book would consider dating someone in the military. My question wasn't so specific because I thought I could glean an answer from responses to a more general question.Pronounced: (mo-KAY-lay em-BEM-bay)

i would say if it's love it will not matter. if it's just dating it might be an issue. look at james carville and mary matlin as an example. he must really love her.0

Have you ever met a gay Republican?
Because the ones I've met have all been annoying mama's boys. 90% of them cower in the closet like Dorothy Gale hiding from Elphelba and the way they defend Newt Gingrich is a bit too much like the way a battered house wife defends her husband.
I try not to be in close proximity to them, let alone date them.
Although that said, it's amazing the positions a guy can get into when he doesn't have a spine.0 -

No, I haven't met any gay Republicans, not in person anyway.
And I didn't know Newt had any defenders left, gay or not.Pronounced: (mo-KAY-lay em-BEM-bay)

oh man... some of the most obvious right-wing scum bag hypocrites have people who'd support them if they were advocating killing everyone's first born son to keep from having to raise taxes on trillionaires.0 -
When I first met and married my wife, she was a registered Republican (she is now registered indepedent) and I had recently changed from being a registered Democrat to Green Party. There was nothing conflicting there however because she was old school Republican (i.e. NOT a neo-con or right-winger or Tea Bagger etc.). As long as I have known her, she has been one of the most generous, loving, giving, peace supporting, earth-friendly, and care giving people I've ever known. At the time, she just thought old-school Republican economics made more sense. Since then she has gone independent because she does not care to be labled "right-wing" (which, as you can guess, she is not) and is now more focused on her work in the community than larger-picture politics.
So labels sometimes really suck and often separate us from the badly needed hard cooperative work of patching this poor world back together again."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
I used to date Ann Coulter, but she ate her peas one at a time............0

You have to be careful if you date a liberal, you will most likely have to support them.0 -
really? that is pretty offensive there...MG79478 wrote:You have to be careful if you date a liberal, you will most likely have to support them."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Yeah, but seriously, are you saying you wouldn't WANT to support me?0 -
unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487My GF is not into politics at all. It's depressing.
If she was a diehard tax and spend Dem we more than likely wouldn't last. If she was a full blown Rick Perry/Mitt Romney neocon I'd have walked out on the first date.0 -
sometimes it is a good thing if your gf is not into politics. unfortunately the intellectual in me requires that in a mate...unsung wrote:My GF is not into politics at all. It's depressing.

i would never consider dating someone whose views were diametrically opposed to my own. though the make up sex would probably be awesome, it just aint worth the grief and frustration.hear my name

LTR - no chance ... FWB - no problem ...

i am hard left ... so, severely in conflict with me is hard right ... would never work ... which is probably why i've never dated anyone who was a hardcore right winger ... LTR or FWB ...0
