Is the tribute band "TEN" worth checking out?

They're in town this Friday. I saw Evenflow once and they were great. But honestly, I can't handle another singer trying to do Ed that sounds like Scott Stapp swallowed a frog.

I've seen "rearviewmirror" a few times and I've been very impressed with them. I think they mostly play around southern Ontario though...

I have seen all the tribute bands, including no code, backseat lover, 5 against 1, etc....and the Ten band is by far the best!!! I even recruited them to play a benefit show for my friend who passed and the 300 plus people there all thought they brought the fuckin house down!!!!!!!!!!

wow, The Ten and No Code are awful. Well, atleast I know what Pearl Jam would sound like if Scott Stapp took over for Eddie. Honestly I don't really see the point in tribute bands, is it because they can't come up with anything original or are they really that obsessed with Pearl Jam that they don't want to play anything else. I can't see Pearl Jam really respecting them as musicians as they are just trying there best to copy word for word, note for note another band. Anyway the music was decent but both the singers sound like cheap stapp clones and sound nothing like Eddie.

I've never seen a PJ cover band, but I have seen cover bands for other bands I really like. It helps for the times when your favourite band is not on tour (or not on tour anywhere accessible to you) and you're craving hearing their music live.... Though I must admit, alcohol seems to help with the illusion ;)

It's just for fun. A night out. Drink beer. Listen to music to like. It's really not that hard to explain.

If I went to a random bar with a random band, I'd much rather them play Pearl Jam songs than other covers, or shitty schlocky originals.

After reading all of these posts about "tribute bands", it's time something was said. I am the lead singer for TEN (Pearl Jam Tribute). I have been reading some of these posts for about 4 years now and the bashing still continues. Why is there a competition between tribute bands? All the musicians (yes I said musicians), who play in Pearl Jam tribute bands throughout the world, do this because of their passion for Pearl Jam's music. Regardless, if one band sounds better than another, it doesn't matter. What matters is that all of these tribute bands are playing the music to their best ability to keep the music alive for decades to come. I am very proud of each of the bands that do this. For those who don't think playing Pearl Jam' s music is not a musician, you need to take some classes on music. Pearl Jam's music is not easy to play and it takes talented musicians to play this stuff. I work with 5 other professional musicians to make our project work, and I believe all of the other bands across the world, do the same. So, let's stop the bashing and start supporting all of these bands. They play for the fans!! I hope each and every one of you reading this, will start seeing the real picture here. Thanks for reading.

Props for being able to play their songs sure that's a nice feet and all, but I think creating something of your own and being able make a contribution to music not just copying and intimidating someone else is what music is all about, I just don't understand why anyone would want to base their entire musical career on just copying someone else.

I've seen a few tribute bands, Zoso, The Machine.... and had a lot of fun. I'm into it if it's all I can get... and I don't see myself and any Zeppelin or Pink Floyd concerts any time soon.

I'm not here to talk shit about anyones musical talents but damn I just listened to some of those myspace links and I can't imagine sitting through more than a song or two of any of that. Plenty of talent but there is just no way for anyone to come close to eddies voice.

Amen, Find your own wings to fly on. I could see if you had something of your own, and cover some of PJ tunes every now and then. But to cover them and only them is wrong. I could see if they no longer exist. But you have to find your own wings to be given the privilege to Fly

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think members of a lot of tribute bands do it as a hobby, not a full time job.... So they are probably looking to play music they like and have FUN, not forge an entire musical career.....

I'm the "Stone" for No Code....I agree with Nick 100%...but I'm going to address some more issues.

It does take a time and talent to try and replicate Pearl Jam as best as we could whether you think it takes creativeness or not - it still does at least my experience in No Code. There's a lot of "jams" like in the middle of rearviewmirror, etc...that leave us as musicians up to a task of creating our own instead of recreating something else.

Another thing is, most of us in tribute bands are in original bands, and do the tribute thing for fun as a hobby. hell, i learned to play guitar by watching all my bootleg PJ vids (no guitar lessons)...so I feel right at home playing PJ's music to the best of my ability - i'm sure others agree with that.

It's a fun hobby, we get some cash for our equipment, and it even opens doors for sponsorships, endorsements, but it's for fucking fun!

oh and I have a full time job where i work at least 60 hours a week.

I don't think anyone of the Pearl Jam Tribute bands do this full-time. For TEN it is a part time job, and we do it because we love PEARL JAM. And "tdub", all tribute bands are worth checking out. You can't base your opinion on what others say. Here a are a few things that I can tell you about our band. I will leave it up to you to decide if you want to come out this weekend to see us.

    Reasons to see TEN:

    1) We are a wonderful group of guys who love to talk to new fans (extremely personable)

    2) We open up the songs, just like Pearl Jam does in concert (RVM, Porch, Betterman/Save it For Later, Crazy Mary, Daugther (It's Ok, W.M.A., My Own Two Hands, Dirty Frank, Another Brick In The Wall, etc...)

    3) Our setlists reflect a "Real" Pearl Jam show...we just don't play the hits...we play lots of rare songs, that even Pearl Jam doesn't play live. Ex: (Cropduster, Hard Sun, Breath..etc..)

    4) The members of TEN have played music all of their lives and make the sound extremely unique with their own original touches

    5) We have our very own Boom who plays keys, and also, sings exactly like Chis Cornell; with that we play Temple of the Dog tunes and Soundgarden..(this is one reason in itself to see us perform)

    Any questions??

Anyone who comes out to our shows will have a good time. Hope to you see you Friday night!!

sounds good when the singer opens up his vocal chords. but drops into his eddie imitation - sounds like the guy from American Idol...remember that dude...?
