sounds good when the singer opens up his vocal chords. but drops into his eddie imitation - sounds like the guy from American Idol...remember that dude...?

lol let my people gooooo, that was hilarious.

i like how you waste your time bashing pj tribute bands - its fun, i hope you get very frustrated with it, or have nothing better to do like me.

Props for being able to play their songs sure that's a nice feet and all, but I think creating something of your own and being able make a contribution to music not just copying and intimidating someone else is what music is all about, I just don't understand why anyone would want to base their entire musical career on just copying someone else.

They aren't trying to have a musical career by playing Pearl Jam songs. They do it for FUN. As they said, it's a hobby and they aren't doing it to try and get a record deal or pass off their Pearl Jam covers as their own. Why is that so hard to see?

I am thankful that I can go see Ten every few months. Since Pearl Jam only tours here every few years, and ticket prices are becoming insane, it's nice to know that I can go listen to Pearl Jam songs for cheap and hang out with people that get it and appreciate the music as much as I do. So thank you to Ten (and the other cover bands I haven't seen) for always playing shows and keeping the music alive.

Music is art, so there's no right or wrong, only likes and dislikes. I enjoy Pearl Jam, I enjoy seeing other bands cover Pearl Jam songs, I enjoy tribute bands playing Pearl Jam, etc. I'm going to see Ten at State Theater and I'm looking forward to it.

Didn't mean to start a shit storm ;-) LOL !

Everybody...Please be happy. If you are into it, come on out and have a good time. If not stay home and watch Music HD. That's what I do when I'm not traveling around the country doing this....

And Nick is just crabby cause he has to sit in the back of the van for 9.5 Hours tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure the sun will rise tomorrow, and yes I'll probably be busting out the bass line for evenflow for the 4057th time and enjoying every minute of it. (BTW, I am certain that there is a finite limit to the number of times it can be done before your head explodes, so for some of you this is probably welcome news;-)

I'm looking forward to having a goooood time in TN, so please come on out and join me ;-)

After reading all of these posts about "tribute bands", it's time something was said. I am the lead singer for TEN (Pearl Jam Tribute). I have been reading some of these posts for about 4 years now and the bashing still continues. Why is there a competition between tribute bands? All the musicians (yes I said musicians), who play in Pearl Jam tribute bands throughout the world, do this because of their passion for Pearl Jam's music. Regardless, if one band sounds better than another, it doesn't matter. What matters is that all of these tribute bands are playing the music to their best ability to keep the music alive for decades to come. I am very proud of each of the bands that do this. For those who don't think playing Pearl Jam' s music is not a musician, you need to take some classes on music. Pearl Jam's music is not easy to play and it takes talented musicians to play this stuff. I work with 5 other professional musicians to make our project work, and I believe all of the other bands across the world, do the same. So, let's stop the bashing and start supporting all of these bands. They play for the fans!! I hope each and every one of you reading this, will start seeing the real picture here. Thanks for reading.

Agreed. I saw Ten play in Baltimore last year. They put on a great show, and the crowd really got into it. Looking forward to seeing them again...

we just don't play the hits...we play lots of rare songs, that even Pearl Jam doesn't play live.

I forgot this one; yet another good reason to see tribute bands!.... I also find they are pretty good about playing requests from the audience (which would never happen at a the "real" band's show...)

There's a cover band that we see out her in SoCal, Vitalogy...they're nice guys, put on a good show and have fun playing good music. definitely helps the PJ fix during off-tour times...i don't go expecting Pearl Jam...just want to hear the music.

would make a point of, among other things, checking out Daughter before they went on to form that "other" band :)

Right hell you can learn for a band but don't copy. When you have a few tunes of your own cover, but don't copy. Don't you think it was hard for the band to put it together. So don't complain on how hard it was for you to learn it. It was harder for them to come up with it. I am not bashing anyone for likeing the band, I'm just saying come on be you. Show yourself, don't hide. I mean as it was said it was hard to learn so why is it so hard to do your own thing....

I am a songwriter and I can't cover songs for the life of me. http://www.myspace.com/lastgeneration56. Someone who paints impressions is just as much an artist as someone who paints from the imagination. There is no difference.

i understand your point of view....really i do! i have NO musical "carreer"! I am a full time graphic artist, owning my own company for 11 years now! It's what i do full time...it's what i focus all my energy on. And just because i get together with a few ppl once or twice a month, at a bar, and we bang out a few tunes from our beloved Pearl Jam for a crowd, doesn't make us the ppl that some of the freaky bashers on this pit seem to be. It's the bashers and the freaks that are a lil more banged up than us "tribute ppl"! I mean really....take a good look at what you do. You go out of your way to spread negativity! AND THATS FINE! i get it! But just no that you are COMPLETELY wrong in defining us as "failed musicians" and "we should write our own music".....give it a rest. it's harmless fun!

While part of me is embarrassed on behalf of the human race that this thread continues on.... I have to ask....

tdub, did you make it out to the show on Friday ? We had a GREAT time ! Once again we made a bunch of new PJ friends down in Chattanooga TN.

I am always amazed at the number of cool people we get to meet doing this every weekend. One thing is for sure... A-Holes are in the minority among PJ fans, and I feel blessed to get the opportunity to meet so many of them (PJ fans that is.... not A-Holes ;-) !

TN may be my favorite US state now too ! The scenery on that drive is simply amazing !

    all the best !

Ten is great! I have lots of friends in cover bands (dunno how that happened) and I think its a cool hobby. That being said, TEN is the best cover band I've ever heard...just sayin :)

Hmm, Black Dog, a Led Zep cover band is pretty awesome too!

Quite simply, those who want to stand behind the ridiculous spiel that cover bands are unimaginative, non-artistic copycats can go fuck themselves. It’s a poor argument for music elitists who stand by their misguided notion that the almighty Creation of original music is done so for the sake of Art, and that all musicians have a duty to follow this path.

The reality is, you have absolutely no clue as to what may inspire any musician to want to play, and are retarded to even assume that creating original Art is the holy grail of all musicians’ aspirations.

I’ve played long enough to see my desire to create original music come and go. Times change, my tastes change, and that thing called Life dictates what I need to do with my allotted time each day. I don’t give a damn about creating art anymore. I just want to play. I love to play. And I don’t care whose music I have to learn in order to play.

Entertaining people at a bar or club is far more exciting to me now than the prospect of creating something for the sake of Art. And nine times out of ten, the best way to entertain the masses (we’re NOT talking about the retarded music elitists here) is by playing popular cover songs. It’s fun. I have fun. And that’s what playing music is supposed to be.

I’m not knocking original music. Original music is important (where do you think all the covers come from?). Any musician who loves to write/record/perform original music is blessed. Chances are, they’re having fun doing it.

But for you music elitists who can’t seem to wrap your bloated heads around the prospect of fun, then again, I say fuck you. It’s my choice to do what I deem as acceptable as a practicing musician. And at this point in my life, the prospect of getting a free vacation to Puerto Rico in exchange for playing a set of Creed covers is more enticing than sitting in a little studio writing a song for the sake of Art.

No Code bites my balls. I saw Ten and the Ducktown Tavern in AC a little over a year ago and they were awesome. However, 5x1 is by far the best. They not only sound great, but they all look the part. Also, they put on a great show.

I may have been a little harsh with my comment. I apologize. That being said, the only thing I really don't like about No Code is the lead singer. I dunno, he just gets on my nerves. No offense.

God, I can't believe i'm gonna respond, but 3 years as the drummer for Evenflow, touring 15 states, Mexico, 10 shows at the HOB, 5 casinos, solely on the merits of Pearl jams' fans' wonderful appetite - I can vouch that "tribute" or "cover" bands can be an exciting and musically rewarding experience. After I had heart failure from viral pnuemonia, and Beav was diagnosed with cancer, we had to put Evenflow to bed. But I can attest that is was a DAMN good time, and we achieved status comparable to any of my peers who tour in small-to-medium size venues. And I never went back to "grubbin for pennies"- I got my Own PJ band- Given to FLy- out of CHI. We dig the shit outta playin this music. Not to toot, but for arguments sake-I also have a degree in Music Theory. You have a lot of caring musicians playin PJ out of passion for the MUSIC, so, BACK OFF!

PS- I own the snare that Matt used on "Gone"- got it from Aaron Mlasko- gotta love E-bay!
