    Another good question-
Matt, can you tell us what that day/phone call was like, when you were asked to join Pearl Jam?

Im curious: It seems like Matt has worked on certain songs over the years, perfecting them and while making them his own, he seems to work hard to tip his hat to the original drum performances from Dave and Jack. In particular, has he worked on In My Tree over the years? as it seems that his drumming on this song has changed since say 2003...trying to copy more of Jack's sound.
I hold the pain, release me!

Wondering if he prefers to start off a show with something fairly mellow (ie.Sometimes/Oceans) or just jump right in (ie Why go/Evolution)

Matt, when Boom is looking at you, do you think

    a. he thinks you are a mighty fine dresser

    b. he thinks you look like his next meal

    c. you know he's not looking at you, he's looking through you

    d. yep, Boom has been into the hawaiian stash again

    e. all of the above

  • I'm unable to call in to the show and I'm hoping that someone asks him about recording 2 new albums this year...one with PJ and one with SG...Will they be recorded around the same time? How hard is it to work on two new albums with two different bands at once?

When Skynet built you and sent you back in time to kill John Connor, how did you break your programming and come to be a drummer?

    Anyone may ask.

If Soungarden was to tour, what would be the arrangement between PJ and Soundgarden?

Who would have custody of Matt? Pearl Jam during the week and Soundgarden on weekends ?

is it challenging to be part of two global bands in managing the calender and fitting things in to keep both camps happy?

Do you consider yourself first a PJ member and from time to time when a soundgarden member? or are they equal? Lets say PJ and SG want you on the same day? and you have to pick? (silly Q i know)

one many are asking - would you if asked put in two shifts on the same night if asked at PJ20? Sgarden and PJ....or even crazier a third with TOTD too?

a cheeky one, whos the better singer - Eddie or Chris? (no pressure  )

I'd love to ask a couple things (wish i had sirius radio now, who knew??).

I'd love to ask which song's break he prefers: RVM or Porch. (cuz he freaking owns that RVM break...)

Love to know how he see's his own role in the band. A drummer can be a lot of different things, and now that he's been here for a decade and fully owns being a PJ member, just wondering where he fits band relations wise. (This band has always had it's internal politics aired, EdvsDave, Ed vs Stone, Stone vs. Jeff. I wanna hear how every time Mike goes for that wah pedal, Matt's eyes light on fire!!)

    ha...

also would like to know if there's like any specific onstage musical moments that stick out over the last 10 years, whether it's crowd reaction, the band being locked in perfectly for a song or set, or just a certain moment that made him feel at peace within his band.

I'm a Jack guy, but no one, nobody, not no how, can do what Matt has done for this band. I think hearing Daughter and Corduroy in 98 really immediately struck me just how good he is for this band.
    cheers

I don't have any questions but just want Tim and/or Rob to relay to Matt how much we appreciate him taking the time to speak to us on the radio show.

I'd say the opposite actually, for a lot of the PJ catalog.

Here's an in depth comparison I did on a song that Dave, Jack and Matt have all played on (Blood):

Here's a comparison on Matt '98 vs Matt '08 on GTF which shows a progression away from Jack's style:

I think the band gives him unmitigated latitude on their whole catalog.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)
