Its over. I caught it late but Matt said they have been recording with soundgarden since december writing new songs.
Oh and a guy had the nerve to tell matt to slow it down live.Matt sorta laughed at him and was glad when they hung up on the guy.
Nice link btw! Hope it worked for everyone.
...and yeah, Matt doesn't take criticism or requests with any humor or grace. Just "he's a troll" or "he's a geek".
Its all about how you say it. The guy said it with a slight attitude. Matts doing us a favor by letting us ask him questions and the guy says something negative. Who wants to hear that shit? Its rude. I would do exactly the same.
and after the call he did admit to being fast when he first joined anyway.
Indeed, it is all about how you say it. I'll have to listen to the replay. I thought it sounded friendly, not rude, but will have to listen again.
And I believe the caller was talking about it more recently, which is why he made the request. It's not too esoteric, as its been on the board many times, so its not exactly out of left field.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

...Matt unfortunately just does not take advice or requests with any grace or humility. When Matt joined the band, he's been given 10000% free reign to change the arrangement/speed/etc of any and all songs. Anyone who questions him is called (by Matt) a "troll" or an "internet geek".
Surprised that he has such thin skin on legitimate topics, but oh well.
don't know what show you were listening to, but you're completely off base here. Matt fully explained the deal and just cause he came back with a good quip to a kind of insulting call (caller could've worded it better and not come off like he did), doesn't make him think skinned. like he said, there's no way he's gonna please everybody, so you and the few he think he's solely to blame for speeding things up can count yourselves in that group, as I guess you already do. He showed nothing but grace, humility, honesty and coolness today.0 -

RVM and Porch should be fast, or at least fast-ish, and I don't think they suffer from Matt's tendencies to speed everything up in the same way as other songs. The greatest aspect of Given to Fly, for example, is how it crescendos at the chorus, and starts to feel faster and frantic. There is minimal (if any) contrast between verses and the chorus as it is currently performed, and in my books, it degrades the quality of the song greatly. Just one example, but I'd say it's the most obvious one.12345AGNST1 wrote:CJMST3K wrote:12345AGNST1 wrote:

and anyway, other than a song that clearly starts with the drums, (given to fly) every song sped up is automatically blamed to Matt. How about when Ed starts RVM or Porch? Thats faster than the studio version. Does anyone complain about those songs? Of Course not. But if we did, I bet it would somehow go back to Matt even though Ed clearly starts it.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

The caller did kind of puss out when it came to hanging up immediately after his statement. I think Matt took it very well with explaining the way he plays and being light hearted at the same time.0 -

cool...looking them up now
Every year at my uni, we have a festival with a biggish name aussie band. Last few years were wolfmother, grinspoon and tame impala. Idiot me wore thongs (flip flops) in tame impala mosh. I was ready to hit the next idiot that jumped on my feet. (my fault as well I know). IT was good fun, they're one of my mates favourite bands.Sydney 11/02/2003

I'll have to re-listen to the show Rob. I must have missed something, while dialing and dialing and...
True, the caller could have worded it better, but it seems Tim's standard line on the program anytime anyone questions anything is "start your own band". Matt calling him a "troll" seems in line with his insults that Matt has used describing people who discuss their preferences openly.
I don't blame Matt for being the sole reason for speeding things up, but him not only being a band member, but the drummer, it's fair to think he has more than his fair share of control over tempo, and fair topic for discussion. Anyway, it seems the caller was just making a request that was quickly brushed away, and then insulted.
...but fair enough, I'll listen to the replay, as it sounds like I may have missed some nuance in there.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

Not bad - I guess it's true what they say about everything going in cycles. I'm starting to see more and more of the 60's psych-brit pop influence in a lot of bands...EEEKKK!!! Does that mean a disco resurgence is next?!

Surely the tempo the songs are played live is a conscious decision by the whole band - it's not as if Matt is speeding up and speeding up within an individual song. To imply he is 'speeding up the songs' is a bit of an insult to a drummer of his calibre imo
I guess if we wanted a proper discussion on this subject we could have had a question like 'Matt, these days many of the songs are played at a faster tempo than they used to be - can you say anything on the reasons behind this?'
Instead we got something like 'Oh yeah, one more thing......MATT YOU GOTTA SLOW THOSE SONGS DOWN DUDE!!!'Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection
