After avocado
Backspacer was a huge disappointment
I'm hoping "of the earth" is a sign of their future direction with some epic grunge stomp and mccready stone extended guitar solos...
I don't think there is one significant guitar solo in all of Backspacer...
That's just not right!

I figure most of these things out over time, but gotta ask...
what's ?
Watch out also for </3 - which is how I'll feel when they announce the 20th anniversary concert and I realise I'm too broke to go.
What were we talking about? Oh yeah...Avocado...right. Great record - up there with my favourites. Army Reserve somehow went from being my least favourite song on that album to one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs ever.

I agree 100%
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
I just started back up listening to it after watching the ACL show this weekend again. Army Reserve and Inside are really great tunes and since I put the CD in my car I am reminded that it is a Damn good Album. Now I will probably have it playing in my car for the next few weeks and will be enjoying every minute of it!!!

You cant really compare PJ albums. To say that Backspacer was a disappointment after avocado is subjective and would give merit to me saying that vitalogy was a disappointment compared to Vs.
But yeah, avocado is great, but i'd take backspacer, yield, vs, ten and binaural over that one if i had to choose
RC, SoDak 1998 - KC 2000 - Council Bluffs IA 2003 - Fargo ND 2003 - St. Paul MN 2003 - Alpine Valley 2003 - St Louis MO 2004 - Kissimmee FLA 2004 - Winnipeg 2005 - Thunder Bay 2005 - Chicago 2006 - Grand Rapids MI 2006 - Denver CO 2006 - Lollapalooza 2007 - Bonnaroo 2008 - Austin City Limits 2009 - Los Angeles 2009 - KC 2010 - St Louis MO 2010 - PJ20 Night 1 - PJ20 Night 2
I came to conclusion that its pretty much impossible to say my favorite PJ album, but Avocado will always be my favorite deep down.
But thats really only because I started getting into PJ on a serious level when Avocado came out, and also when I first saw them in 06. Memories.
I think that Avocado is the most underrated PJ album. If it would have been released in 1996 instead of 2006, it would have received much more attention. With the release of Avocado, my interest in PJ was kick-started once again and it hasn't let up since. I created an account on The Pit as a result of Avocado. Avocado also led to my excitement over the release of Backspacer and the 2009 tour, in which I attended two awesome shows (Chicago 2 and Los Angeles 4).
(After Vitalogy, my interest in PJ began to drop and things happened in my life such as law school, so I was in the bunker for a few years, but I'm happy to say that I've been a fanatic once again and have been going non-stop since 2006.)

yeah it's tough to call "one" of them. they each represent a different time in the life and are all equally significant in building their legacy.
Exactly

then about a year later i didn't lke it that much anymore.
recently i started listening to it again, and i'm back to really liking it.
is a heart. a sideways one. A "crooked" one.
Avocado is very underrated and has some really awesome lyrics. If you don't love it yet, give it time.

I loved, loved, loved Backspacer since the very beginning and I haven't stopped loving it since.
I agree. Self Titled is the only album I can't listen to. I gave it another chance this week but I couldn't get through the album.
