PJ's next studio album...thoughts/wishes?

What kind of approach would you like to see the band take with their next studio album? A straight-forward rock/pop sound like "Backspacer"? Something eclectic like "No Code"? Something with a harder/darker edge like "Vitalogy"? A return to their roots with something more "Classic-rock" sounding? Or something completely different that moves them even further away from their roots and the modern mainstream music scene?

Personally, I loved the direction they took with "No Code", incorporating completely different sounds and genres, and throwing a good portion of their fan base and the music industry for a loop. I'd like them to do something that rocks even harder, and even more genre-defying than their previous work. What do you think...will we be surprised? Shocked? Or have we come to expect too much that we may even be...*gasp*...disappointed?!

Please share.

  • I want Eddie on the accordion for the WHOLE thing. I'm talkin hardcore accordion. And Boom can just play the bongos the whole time, Matt can try and sing like Chris Cornell, Stone and Jeff will play vuvuzelas at different tones, and Mike will play air guitar. Thats right, air guitar on a studio album. Only Mike McCready can make that work.

    STACY *6Burgh* Go Steelers!!
  • They will figure it out. They always do. I have never once been disappointed with anything they have done, even "The Fixer' for those out there. As long as I can connect with the lyrics, I'm in.
I got some if you need it.

But then we might have to wait 6 years for some more pop songs.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

  • I really enjoy the direction they took with backspacer. So i would love it if they kept that same upbeat mentality with it. but i've always been more attracted to their experimental so maybe a no code/binaural meets backspacer

  • I'm hoping for something fully cohesive. I'd like to see them produce an album that flows from start to finish in a meaningful way and that feels like a full production and not just a random collection of songs. I'd like to be surprised, but am hoping it isn't by another ukelele song. I'd like Mike to make up for backspacer and tear things up. I want Stone to produce music that keeps him as animated as he lately has been, but hope he goes back to his roots a bit more and polishes up some of those open chords. I hope that Ed delivers some personal lyrics and relates some life experience with us without going into hiding on us with triteness. And I hope Ed doesn't take a conservative approach and lets things soar and sail with his voice instead of keeping things short, crisp and layered atop the music instead of soaking deep into and with it. I hope that Ed doesn't sit at a computer making songs like The Fixer again and instead jams with the band and with the vision of an audience in front of them. I hope they work toward making an album that stands on its own as an album and that they reconsider what they are leaving off versus what they put on with an ear toward what works and not what appeases one member or another. But I'm not picky, eh? ;)
