Something differente and new, as always and fortunately, but more like Vs, Vitalogy, No Code, and some from Binaural ... No pop songs, more longer songs, more experimental, more groove, more aerial, a album homogeneic and conceptual, with a "grunge" production ... careful, I love Backspacer but it's not my favorite ...

  • It's difficult for me to choose an album or sound to replicate. My favorite songs are so diverse like PJ's albums. I love every album except for the self titled. I thought that album was the end of my relationship with PJ.

They will figure it out. They always do. I have never once been disappointed with anything they have done, even "The Fixer' for those out there. As long as I can connect with the lyrics, I'm in.

couldn't have said it better than this guy

Yes to all this with Of the Earth on it.
  • "Of the Earth" sounds very much like No Code/Yield era PJ to me so if that's the direction the band is going in we could be in for something along those lines.

Personally I'd like to see a more cohesive, textured, riff driven album. Something that mixes both electric and acoustic with plenty of variety in tempo and tone (so basically Yield 2). As far as newer PJ goes "Amongst the Waves" seems closest to what I'm thinking of.
    So this life is sacrifice...

An album with Mike featured prominently would be nice... I'm not sure where he was when they were recording Backspacer, but it doesn't sound like he was in the studio. I don't mind the experimenting - I love No Code and You Are - but I really didn't care much for Backspacer's pop sound at all. Ten made such an impact (in my opinion) because it didn't sound like anything else being released at that time. I'd like to see them recapture that edge and let the charts come to them, instead of writing an album for the current charts.

And to the previous poster who said more jamming and longer songs, I second that motion :)
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

The next album? ... a mix of Vs, Vitalogy and No Code, and a touch of Ten and Binaural, a bit of Into The Wild, plus new, very new ... a sound like Vitalogy, groove, peace, punk, tribal songs of 7 minutes, and more madness ... a double album? oh yes! Songs like Of The Earth! Epic songs, no pop ...

  • Dare I use the word 'grunge' here?
It's a bit of a rarity on the boards.
Warts n' all.... something that sounds dirty.

I love Backspacer, it's so likeable, but I'm always a fan of bands just getting out there and doing something totally different to the last time out. Maybe 'Enterprise 2' the PJ double conecpt album I had a dream about a while back.
we're all going to the same place...
