Like "In Your Honor" by Foo Fighters? I loved that double album. "Virginia Moon" is a great song on the acoustic side, and both discs kicked ass.

  • The Beatles hit on the best idea with Get Back/Let it Be and as far as I know no one has done it since.

Write an album of new material and perform it live for the first time ever at some crazy epic location, record that show, and it's a live album of completely new material...

Either that or it would be fun to hear them make a totally experimental record that is never intended to be reproduced live using all the studio trickery of the time....

    MORE BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they need to get him right in there as the sixth member, just like they did on 'Riot Act'

Otherwise they should do whatever they want, it'll be great. 'Backspacer' was awesome, I don't care what the haters say.

I would like an album recorded underwater in scuba gear, and have some marine life like sea horses bobbing their heads to the righteous beats
  • A good album.

  • stone/jeff write the majority of songs.
ed writes substantial lyrics and focuses less on playing guitar.
matt and mike keep doing what they do best, just give em something to work with!

Obviously whatever they want to do is cool...but I would love an "Of The Earth" route. Jam. Let McCready show off. Vocals - PISSED.
  • if its in the mood i saw during playing of the earth will be a masterpice..
    and let God jam more.......

I want Stone to take the vocals on a song, it has been way to long.

  • Hopefully the band just makes music that feels natural to them and doesn't focus on making a radio hit ... Be kinda cool if they worked with Rick rubin IMO he really seems to bring new life to older bands. Metallica chili peppers ...I know it's wishful thinking but I'd love to hear more power behind the drums like Dave A days .... Matt rocks either way tho. :D

I want to hear more bass notes from Jeff, more insane solos from Mike, more heavy riffs from Stone, more crazy ass drumming from Matt & more in your face vocals from Ed.

I'd like to see them continue with the Backspacer direction, but with a little more experimentation.. Maybe 7 or 8 pop songs with 3 or 4 more edgy materials. Maybe a little more atmospheric than Backspacer. I do like the new wave influence, so I hope they continue to test that out.

Most importantly, keep it upbeat and optimistic. While the music may be less groundbreaking than previous efforts, Backspacer gets the most plays because of the uplifting mood. Yield isn't far behind.

I think we'll get some more Backspacer type songs personally, didn't Ed say they had plenty more where they came from!? Ed seems to be in a really good positive space at the moment so another pop-rock sound will be ok as far as I'm concerned. I don't think we'll ever get another Vs or Vitalogy, but a No Code or Yield type album is more realistic I think.

I think we'll get a few more Backspacers.. I could see them going more experimental in their 50s. I think they want to make a popular statement while they're still relatively young. They may try new, more challenging things later on to keep their aging minds fresh.

I'm hoping for something fully cohesive. I'd like to see them produce an album that flows from start to finish in a meaningful way and that feels like a full production and not just a random collection of songs. I'd like to be surprised, but am hoping it isn't by another ukelele song. I'd like Mike to make up for backspacer and tear things up. I want Stone to produce music that keeps him as animated as he lately has been, but hope he goes back to his roots a bit more and polishes up some of those open chords. I hope that Ed delivers some personal lyrics and relates some life experience with us without going into hiding on us with triteness. And I hope Ed doesn't take a conservative approach and lets things soar and sail with his voice instead of keeping things short, crisp and layered atop the music instead of soaking deep into and with it. I hope that Ed doesn't sit at a computer making songs like The Fixer again and instead jams with the band and with the vision of an audience in front of them. I hope they work toward making an album that stands on its own as an album and that they reconsider what they are leaving off versus what they put on with an ear toward what works and not what appeases one member or another. But I'm not picky, eh? ;)
    THIS, THIS, ALL OF THIS.

It seems like with each new album the band tries to do something completely different to the previous record. That gives me some hope because I wasn't all that keen on Backspacer...

More Jeff and Matt tunes would be great.
