Hey Guys...

With the new Lost Dogs forum i figured a lotta new/old pj vinyl records are gonna be finding new homes. In the process of reorganizing my own record collection i realised i needed to get new plastic covers, as mine were pretty beat up... and than i got a think'in... how awesome would it be if i had some pj covers for my pj records... about 10 years ago I carved out these stencils, which i have used over the years to spray paint the images onto those little white paper cd covers we all trade with... well...what i want to do is offer this up:

1st prize: Pearl Jam 5-Alive bootleg on Vinyl +13 of my vinyl covers (one for each official release by the band)
-Ten, vs, vitalogy, no code, yield, lo2l, binaural, riot act, lost dogs, rvm, self titled, backspacer, loxl

*if i omitted anything lemme know!

2nd prize gets the pearl jam alive guy image on 10 - 45' sized single sleeves

3rd prize gets 10 images spray painted onto those paper cd sleeves

here are some pictures of the lp ones:

in black:
http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0852.jpg

black sleeve on actual lp:

http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0872.jpg

now in red:

http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0862.jpg

red cover on lp:

http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0871.jpg

now for white, for the darker colored albums:
http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0865.jpg

looks pretty good on binaural:

http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0869.jpg

variant style:

http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af96/jimbojones1138/IMG_0873.jpg

so what i will do is mix and match... ill try my bst to make as many white ones for each dark album and vise versa...

so how to win.. just reply back to my thread with which is your favorotie pearl jam song and why...ill pick names randomly out of a hat next sunday night... superbowl sunday...seems fitting!

hope you like em...

This is such a cool contest, thank so much for the chance!!! My vinyl need some awesome covers!!!! :D

Unthought Known is my favorite Pearl Jam song because it's the whole package. It has out-of-this-world lyrics, the way it's sung by Eddie is some amazing because of the emotion he puts into the song. Also the music is so awesome and fits the lyrics really good. The song is just so incredible it is like the best song in the world!!!! Thanks again for the chance, good luck everybody!!! :D:D:D

    Great Covers!

After all these years I still have to say "Release". I was a freshman at U of Delaware when Ten came out and I played it to death.

how creative! can we just reply which of the sleeves we like the best though? :D would be much easier! (like the white one best by the way). the paper cd covers sound like they would make some serious kick ass bootleg houses! but ok I'll get official and let you know my favorite song. this is gonna be hard. it's almost too tough! but here goes. wait a minute. my brain hurts. but right now it's...

    In My Tree

First for the sick drumming and bass intro. Then you you have Eddie saying "yeah" after the verses which is real cool. It's got great build up and then soars. Great lyricism, too. "Wave to all my friends, so high the sky I scrape, knowledge is a tree..It's growing up just like me", etc. I'm not entirely sure what the song is about but it conjures up being by yourself and reflection which is something I'm very comfortable doing. Also love how they don't play it all that often live - makes it special.

    In Hiding

Yield was just a punch in the face, that was released at just the right time in my life. Hearing In Hiding that first time, I knew the song was my fav. Hearing it live so many times, and the crowd getting more and more into it over the years, just cements it's place as my #1 PJ song.

  • Awesome vinyl covers!!!

My favorite song would have to be Do the Evolution; a song with great lyrics along with an awesome tune to crank in the car...plus having Todd McFarlane do the animation for the video makes it truly unforgettable!

    Thanks for the chance!

  • Really cool contest!!!

    Definitely, Black.

Everything about the song is just so beautiful. The lyrics are unlike anything I've ever heard before. There is so much imagery and emotion in the song. Every time I listen to the song, it feels like I'm listening to it for the first time. I have to listen to it over and over again, in order to just understand one part of the song because there are many layers to it that make it beautiful. I'll focus on Eddie's voice one time and really try to understand what he is saying by all the metaphors and symbols that he is using, another time I'll try to focus on Mike's guitar, and so on. Whenever I listen to it I just feel like there is so much emotion building up inside of me and I get chocked up, not even sure why. This is one of those songs where its better to listen to it with your eyes closed and just play it out in your head as a movie. You know, like when he talks about the children's laughter, I can imagine going outside and seeing kids on bicycles and just being disgusted. And then when Eddie says the part about I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I just feel like bursting out with tears, and it seriously gets me every time. Its just such a beautiful song, and I feel like it can have so many interpretations, as many of their songs do, which I think is awesome. I can probably go on and go because this piece of literature is so strong! Thank you so much Pearl Jam!

Sorry its a long reason about why I love the song ;)
By the way, did I mention it has by absolute favorite line in the world. "All five horizons revolved around her soul, as the earth to the sun".

Thanks for the opportunity of letting us share what PJ songs mean to us!
    Good luck to whoever wins!!

It's a tough decision to pick one song, but Black has always been a constant favorite, It hits me in the heart everytime! Thanks!!!
  • Awesome work on the covers.

Favorite song is tough, but I would have to go with Grievance. The song just gets the blood boiling in a positive direction.

    Thanks for the chance.

    Those are very cool!

Even Flow, it's been my gave since I first heard those many years ago, I guess keeping it as my gave for all the years speaks to me about my own level of dedication and commitment.

    Hope I win

Yeah man I'd love to have some of these! I have so many "favorite" songs it's so hard to pick one. I guess I'll say "Life Wasted" since I recently (last 19 months or so) turned my life around completely from getting fired because I was an irresponsible drunk/drug user to a more responsible day to day type mentality person and a devoted parent (baby is 9 months next week). The lyrics are fitting for sure and that's my favorite song today. Tomorrow it will probably be something else.

THAT is one of the most amazing versions of that song... so much emotion... have you seen the youtube clip of this? eddie is a madman... almost impales jeff with the mic stand by accident...proceeds to toss it... and does this maniacal little jump off the drum kit and twists around in mid air... actually this is one of the most lively versions of this song ive EVER seen... they were definately having a blast that day... i beleive ed said that they had never played for a crowd that big... definately feeding off the crowd's energy... and dont even get me started on porch from the very same performance :o

  • Good stuff.

Porch. But not just any version. The version from the 1992 Zurich show. If you listen to that and don't immediately remember why you are a PJ fan, then you aren't doing it right.

I really can't choose one particular song, it's just one of those questions. However, Alive was the first song I heard so let's just say it's Alive!

Great contest - great idea and very original.

"Indifference" as I still get shivers when its played and Ben Harper does it proud too when he joins in.
