Dogfish Head & PJ20

  • Trust me I know it's not that easy. Emailing or writing both 10C and DFH just plants idea seed. One camp may think it a good idea and contact the othter, both may like it, or neither may like it. That's all I can do and hope for the best...you know, throw the spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks.

I just thought it would be a good collaboration that maybe neither camp had thought of. And because it's a PJ milestone (20) there may be more of a reason for a pj beer.

There isn't a brewery out there that can even think about it until the location is announced.

Somewhat unrelated, but I'm getting ready to go pick up a 6 pack of Bell's Hopslam that Total Wine is holding for me. I've never had it before so I'm pretty pumped.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I took a 2.5 hour trip the other day for a case and 5L mini-keg.

    Well worth it.

As I said... Hopslam is Liquid Gold.

My corner bar had it on tap for a while last year.

Inspired by Dogfish and a few other great microbrews, I started home brewing about a year ago.

This thread gave me the idea of brewing up a batch for the anniversary festival and handing them out to fans in the parking lot to enjoy while tailgating. I have this vision of 22oz bottles with the PJ20 logo on the bottle. The big question now is what style should I brew?

All this Hopslam talk is making me want to go to the fridge and crack one of mine.

I would definitely say that fresh 2011 Hopslam compares to Pliny. I think it is better.

  • After reading this thread I tried Ellies Brown Ale by Avery. It was ok. I prefer Sweet Georgia Brown by Sweetwater.

Went to Hop City to find Hopslam and they were already out.

    Let's focus here...
Dogfish Head PJ20 Summerfest Ale... I can already taste it.

  • I grabbed a 6 pack of Hopslam last night, it was the first time I had it. Aaaaaamzing beer.

Nice, what an awesome road trip! That is a long way to go for beer though, especially since you have never had it. How was it ? I think I would go an hour for a beer.

Will have to keep my eyes open for this one!
  • Yes tell me why the Hopslam is so good.
Is it hoppy? What is it similar to? Is it like a double IPA that is easy to drink?

Oh I have had it before. I have to go through great lengths each year to get Hopslam as Bells does not distribute to the state of New Jersey. I look forward to how I will be able to get it each year.

I went to college not far from Rehobeth where they have a tavern, so I've been drinking dogfish head for years.

    I definitely support a pj/dfh beer...maybe they could call it "immort-ality ale"? :D
Show #13 was a lucky one for me....

When I went to the Robin Hood benefit show at The Beacon in 2008, I remember they had an eclectic selection of beer. Given the ticket prices the beer was free. Not sure if the band picked out the beer or not, but if they did it could be an indication that the band could be open to something like this.

Great idea, A Pearl Jam inspired craft beer for 20th anniversary we be awesome!!

A 2.5 hour road trip is not very far.
Especially when you consider I moved 1750 miles to be near all the beer that is brewed in Colorado
(okay that's not the primary reason but it is in the top 10 reasons to move to Colorado)
Where I live in Boulder County there are at least 14 breweries and/or brewpubs (including Avery, Twisted Pine, and Oskar Blues) and within an hour probably 25-30 more breweries and brewpubs not including Coors and Bud.
