Yep! I didn't get to see them this time around, but there are strong hints that in the new year there will be some proper headlining shows to support the new album in UK, USA and Europe. Can't wait
Where in the UK r u from? They didn't come near you on their tour with BRMC?
I'm in the middle! They came close, but I was otherwise engaged
I have tickets for February though!! yayCancel my subscription to the Ressurection

I listened to a live Duke Spirit session on BBC Six Music last week, and while it was a great session I was disappointed to hear Liela say that the Bruiser album release has been put back to September

I think it's going to be on Factory records, and Factory want to promote it then. I think the band are concentrating on their UK shows and festival appearances over this summer period - but I imagine they will be wanting to get their arses back stateside as soon as they can after that.
Am going to keep my eyes peeled for any new online sessions etc in the meantime!Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection

The Duke Spirit - Bruiser (2011)

Round 3 and the Duke Spirit step right back into the fray with Bruiser, an album that delivers as a whole so much more than the teaser songs have promised. With Bruiser the Duke Spirit prove that they are amongst that rare breed of contemporary musicians that can write and deliver an 'album', and not just a collection of songs. For me, this was the strength of Neptune, and if anything Bruiser is an even stronger album. It is the world that Liela Moss, and the Duke Spirit's songs and music explore that give their work its unique strength. Bruiser may at first sound more mellow, measured and friendly than previous work, but it is an album dripping with revenge, survival and lust - and it explores the complex relationship between these themes in a way that, as the songs start to get under your skin, you are forced to go back to the beginning and allow a little more of the picture to emerge. There is a complexity and tension here which is not revealed on a casual listen, or contained in any one individual song - as a whole though Bruiser has a depth and dimension that is rare. There is enigma running through the words and singing on this album, and the demons that Liela Moss has confronted throughout her previous work have certainly not gone away - instead they have been harnessed and drive the sinister underbelly of the record. These are songs that can flip, and tell an entirely different story, depending on which point of view the listener adopts. Every song contains an enigma which can shift the perspective of the voice and the music into unforeseen places, almost every song pulses with both friendliness and hostility. This is highly skilful writing, singing and playing, of the kind where, like the best chameleon-like albums you can immerse yourself again and again in the emotions and images the music conjures up. A fleeting moment, a shadow, warmth, darkness, daylight, safety, a glimpse of something else, and the slow burning fuse of vengeance - this is Bruiser.Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection

Hi Dave!
I think the full US release is put back to November or something - but I don't know how that works in the era of internet downloads etc. It has had the full UK and Europe release, and last night the band featured on the BBC show Later with Jools Holland, which tends to feature some of the key bands of the moment - they were good!
I am liking the album a lot - a lot more than I expected having listened to the singles and downloads which came out earlier. The album as a whole just seems to 'work' much better than the singles might suggest. It is heavy, powerful lyrically and vocally, but has much more of a strong 'slow burning' impact than their previous stuff - there are no fiery uptempo rockers like on the previous albums - but the growling slow burning thing they really pull off well I think - it is a different kind of collection of songs.Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection
