Some people have been asking me about Duke Spirit live mp3s and show links etc - here are some of the best acoustic and semi unplugged things I have found, but will seek out some more!!
Absolutely no idea what the Duke Spirit policy is in regards to live show taping and sharing MP3s. If someone tells me they don't like it then I will 'remove myself' !!

Sticking with this amazing Duke Spirit 'unplugged' session for Livedaily (which I believe has now folded) - 3 songs from the session are now being hosted by Ticketmaster
There are two other incredible stripped down versions of Neptune songs - Into the Fold & the Step & the Walk......
This song is immense!! a crackling sizzling whirlpool of a tune! heavy, catchy; great hooks great vocals - great sound! Bodes really well for the new album I think - the opening riffs, the production - like it A LOT!! I can't remember when I was last this excited before loading up a new release, and it doesn't let me down...... encore!! What a gem of a free download.
What I like most about this single is they seem to have brought the same power and energy they always bring to the fast rockers to a more smouldering song - and it's a heavier sound that seems to work really well. Très très bien!
I was going to hold off posting until I saw what others thought of it.... have dominated this thread a bit too much of late. Have listened a few times now though and couldn't restrain myself! Bravo Duke Spirit
What do people think?? Me: A1 - full steam ahead.....
I've seen them a few times and they always bring it live. If anyone hears that they are extendig that LA show into multiple West Coast dates, I BEG you to PM me. I'll keep my eye out, but the more eyes the better.
LOVE the new tune, stright forward rocker ... I dig it!
Great stuff! Call it a two man mission now! most excellent photos btw
If I pick up anything about more US shows I'll let you know - likewise if you catch anything about the UK

The Duke Spirit will be premiering brand new songs during select shows in New York and LA in the coming weeks. The rock band, fronted by the fierce and enigmatic front-woman Liela Moss, is crossing the Atlantic for select appearances. The Duke Spirit are scheduled to co-headline the KCRW Halloween Masquerade Costume Ball on October 30 in LA before heading cross country for a special performance at Santos Party House in NYC on November 3.
These shows will be fans first opportunity to hear the London quintet’s bold new material before a free three-track EP, entitled Kusama, is released exclusively via iTunes on December 7. Kusama will be available across all digital platforms on December 21 and the full length album is due for release in February 2011 on Shangri-La Music. Download new song “Everybody’s Under Your Spell” via http://www.thedukespirit.com now!
Known for commanding not only the attention of the music community but the fashion world as well, The Duke Spirit will also play at a private event for Levi’s on November 4. The band was most recently in NYC during Spring Fashion Week, where they played at the Y-3 Adidas show. Designer Philip Lim has cited Leila Moss as his “modern muse” and the late Alexander McQueen was so enchanted by Moss and her style that she served as the inspiration for McQ for Target, his 2009 fashion line for the retail outlet.
The Duke Spirit’s forthcoming 2011 album will be the first release since 2008’s Neptune (Shangri-La Music) which garnered the band critical praise and brought the band into millions of living rooms across America with TV performances on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly. The Los Angeles Times has said of their live shows, “The British quintet plays ragged soul-punk with an absolute firecracker of a lead singer,” and SPIN called their music, “Fully loaded Jesus and Mary Chain-fried fuzz.” Moss’s commanding stage presence is truly unmatched; her all but swaggering demeanor, striking looks and heart wrenching (and heartfelt) voice leaves crowds in the palm of her hand.

Yes, I'm sure we'll have no shortage of duke spirit shows to choose from in 2011 - on both sides of the Atlantic! I can't wait, and I'm going to make sure I don't miss them this time. I particularly like the way the resplendent and majestic Liela Moss knows how to shake her tambourine as well as her butt. So I'm looking forward to the shows!

Well The Step & The Walk is the song that got me into them so that is definitely one of them (probably my fav). I don't have their first album like I mentioned before, just a few songs off of it I DL. Others I like :
- This Ship Was Built To Last
- You Really Wake Up The Love In Me
- Lassoo
- My Sunken Treasure
- Dark Is Light Enough
- Bottom Of The Sea

I'll tell you two songs I have gotten into recently, though I didn't particularly notice them before - 'Hello to the Floor' and 'Do what you Love' - both of these show different sides to the exalted and merciful Liela Moss's vocal and lyrical delivery. I think a lot more people would like 'Do what you love' if they heard it - great melodies --really memorable song once you listen a few times.

Everybody's Under Your Spell is featured in the NME's top tracks to listen to this week. Here's what they say:
5. The Duke Spirit - 'Everybody’s Under Your Spell'
These cult heroes return with a glossy fur coat slung over the shoulders of their dirty blues-rock. Leila Moss’ rasp has a new smoothness, and with the band thundering beneath it, The Duke Spirit suddenly sound more confident and glamorous than ever before.

Yeah, everybody's under your spell is the more typical heavier rockier sound I guess. Nortbound seems quite a departure into the pure gorgeous pop tune - reminded me in parts of Bjork and the Cardigans a bit maybe. Albeit with the added brilliance of Liela Moss's most moving, wistful singing, which I can't have enough of. I imagine it will win some new fans and alienate some other fans. I'm wondering if we will get a diverse set of songs on the new album - looks like they have been developing away from the safe Neptune mode. I'm liking Northbound a lot though!

The Duke Spirit puts Santos Party House under its spell (11/3)
By Joe Marvilli on November 5th, 2010
After touring for much of the last couple years, it looked like The Duke Spirit was ready for a long break in the studio. Now as we approach the end of the year, it turns out we were half right. They did take a break and head into the studio. It just wasn’t for very long. But after seeing them try out new material at Santos Party House along with a few old favorites, all that can be said is “Thank God for that.” The Duke Spirit put on a show of ferocious energy that left ears ringing and bodies shaking. It was the type of show that you left feeling great about, no matter what your expectations were.
The Rassle kicked things off, opening with a set of rocking tunes that had an ethereal tone to them......
.....Once The Rassle departed, the crowd gathered around the stage in the now packed venue, waiting patiently for the band of the hour to arrive. Then they waited some more…and some more…and watched a drum tech spend 20 minutes trying to get a good microphone before telling the band to come on. After this display, maybe it’s not the opening band that needs a better sound system. Santos certainly wasn’t shining in the audio department that day.
Once The Duke Spirit finally started their set with “Lassoo” off of 2008’s Neptune, any thought of the long wait instantly vanished. The band was in top form, slamming through each song of their 16-song set with a combination of precision and hunger. This band was clearly excited to be back on the road, showing off what they’d come up with. It’s no surprise then that the new songs are some of their best yet. “Everybody’s Under Your Spell” is a perfect example of how strong their upcoming material is. Luke Ford’s bluesy guitar pulls you along into a shout-out chorus supported by Olly Betts’ driving beats. Old hits like “The Step and the Walk” and “Lion Rip” rounded out the show nicely, working well with the unfamiliar tracks.
But if there’s one reason why The Duke Spirit shines above other indie bands from London, it can be boiled down to two words: Liela Moss. The singer is one of the most naturally talented frontwomen of this generation. Throughout the show, she did it all. Her vocals ranged from slow and sultry to intensely epic. When she belts out a note, it sends a charge through the crowd. Not only is she on top of her game singing-wise, but she also knows how to play a crowd. She used everything on the stage to her advantage. Tambourines, maracas, and her mic stand became more than just instruments. She turned them into dance partners. The limits of the small stage became a non-issue as she made sure to spend some time on every inch of it. Plus, she plays a pretty mean harmonica, too.
By the end of the show, there was only one question in my mind. Why isn’t this band playing bigger venues yet? The display I saw should have been at a venue three times the size of Santos Party House. While it doesn’t look like The Duke Spirit is there yet, the concert they put on in downtown Manhattan makes me think that it won’t be long before they rise to the top of the indie heap.

Yeah! Looks like it is UK Duke Spirit gigs in 2010; and USA and UK gigs in 2011 - to promote the new album. Europe?? I'm predicting a lot of activity in both USA and UK next year - The Duke Spirit album is bound to be one of the best albums of 2011. A band headlining tour is called for methinks!!
The Duke Spirit - Best Band of 2011? Best album of 2011? Almost definitely!
