Does anyone here have a problem with this quote I would like your honest opinions? I have it as a quote below VVV and I used it on another site. They removed it and threatened to ban me and close out my account. I asked the mods/administrator why and this is basically what they said....

If you're former military than you should know the definition of terrorism. And while people may be terrified during war, that doesn't mean that those that answer the call of their nation to protect it are terrorists. Your sig implied otherwise.
I'm not going to make a call on your removal, because I like having guys like you around. You're fun to beat up on in a debate. But given your flippant attitude about your membership here, if one of the other Mods want to dismiss you, I don't have a problem with it.
We have all sorts of wars the quote isn't specifically speaking to our military but to wars everywhere and anywhere. I'm NOT speaking of our Military as terrorists in anyway.
Peace

meh...if that administrator is going to take that sort of attitude with you i would probably not go back to that forum. that admin should be smart enough to be able to see your point instead of being so defensive. and there are many scholars such as zinn and chomsky and others that have essentially said what your quote is....something like "war is terrorism, and nothing else"...
i like how that admin said you are fun to beat up on in a debate. that tells us all we need to know about that website right there. also the passive aggressive way in which he/she threatened your account. i would tell them to kiss your former military ass and ask them how many former military people view war like you do and how many view it like they do. chances are, more of the former military folks would agree with you than that admin..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0

That's fucked up. You said nothing wrong. I feel the same way. Sounds like the mods are not being mods. Mods should be neutral and not let their own views over shadow what their job is. That's how I feel, not every place is the same. I wonder how often Kat and the others want to.... not be neutral.I'll be back0

Just provide him with the dictionary definition of the word terrorism and then ask him how it doesn't apply to any of the foreign wars of aggression the U.S has engaged in the past 50 years.
Better still, just remind the prick that the U.S was formally charged with state terrorism by the World Court for it's activities in Nicaragua in the 1980's.0

while i don't agree with your quote their is in no way you should have been banned for that as it is not an unreasonable opinion to have, that website and their mods should chill the fuck out0

Can you make a list in chronological order?
This is what I have off the top of my head:
 Iran
 Egypt
 Chile
 Vietnam
 Panama
 Nicaragua
 Iraq
 Afghanistan0

Calling US Forces terrorists goes over fine here. You'll probably get nominated for A Moving Train's annual John F. Kerry "Who Can Disparage the Troops the Most Award" for 2010- but you won't win. You need a lot more hate in your heart to win that.
As long as you don't disparage Muslim "freedom fighters", you'll get along great in here. 8-)0

Well, I don't totally agree with the quote.
But if you had said this; PREVENTATIVE war is terrorism with a bigger budget. That I'd agree with. You know, going to war with a country because they *may* pose a threat to you in the future but have zero signs of being an imminent threat.
Even guys like Chomsky would agree that some wars are justified and therefore not a "terrorist" act. But I'd argue the last justifiable war this country took part in was WWII, so you're statement is essentially correct.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0

Who said anything about the "US Forces?" I thought it was obvious that he's talking about the people who make the war decisions, not the poor souls who are sent to die.

OK. But they're not sent to die. They're sent to kill.0

okay I guess if we're going to get into the analytics of language then you're right, they're not all "sent to die." But they are sent over with the absolute certainty that SOME will, in fact, die.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0

Isn't "the analytics of language" what this thread is based on? Playful ways to debate the legality of all American wars since WWII?0

Well, it is about a metaphor (war is terrorism). A metaphor is used to convey meaning, to show how two things are not alike in some ways but are alike in a crucial way somehow. It is not a "playful way to debate," metaphor is a cognitive tool that helps us better understand what the original poster is thinking. In this case, it helps us understand his thought that unjustified murder of innocent people is cruel and, depending on what country you live in, can be defined as either "war" or "terrorism." They are not interchangeable words, but are alike in a crucial way.
A wise man once said "all that is is metaphor."Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0

it is a function of the world we live in ... americans can do what they do all over the world because for the most part everyone believes in the propaganda about freedom and liberty ... moderators are no different ...
it's not surprising you got that kind of response ...0

Ok. Thanks for the English lesson.

 So...are you Marines? Army?[/quote]
By that logic, I could have asked the OP, "Are you a pussy? Liberal?"
No. And that was the dumbest question I've heard in a while.0
