Back From The Grand Canyon

That's right, ol' eyed survived yet another wilderness trek. We had cheesy potato soup for Thanksgiving (eat your hearts out) and survived wave after wave of late-night attacks by these monsters...
Needless to say, I eventually captured and trained several of them for my army. One day mankind, one day...
Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.

That would make an awesome hat.
Well, we've just been hanging around.
No, we didn't do that, but we hiked about 50 miles down one side, up the other, and covered a bunch of waterless trails in between where nobody goes this time of year. Had to find pothole water from the passing storms that left wind blown ice on trails. Some in places where the trail is three feet wide with one step to infinity on one side and no kind of ledge or handrail and all while being buffeted by 50 + mile an hour winds.

Yeah, didn't find out the results until Sunday night. I'm glad I missed it. Brotzman is getting local death threats though, so some good has come of it.

A whole month? I am jealous. We spent one night at the Phantom Ranch campground there at the bottom, but not in a cabin or anything. Still, too many people. The rest of the nights were out in some side canyon by ourselves.

I keep telling you fine people that I have never been banned. Never once for even a second. Frankly, I don't think the mods have the stones...

Nope. We arrived at the North Rim official site just in time to watch a monstrous blizzard sweep over the canyon. Woke up the next morning to more sideways howling snow and found out they had closed the road and were diverting all traffic to the south rim (200 + mile detour). We were the last to leave from the North Kaibab trail for a couple days while the storm blew over. Should have brought my snowboard; I could have covered the first couple of miles pretty quickly... or fallen off the side of a cliff. Once we dropped into the canyon a couple miles, it was ok, but a first it was one hell of a storm. We were pinned down under the awning of an out of season Ranger cabin for several hours at one point.

I think I need to sign up with some photo hosting site or something. Whatever that means. I will put together a photo album of the trip on Facebook... assuming I actually log-in to Facebook some day and get that done. I still haven't put up pictures from the last Yellowstone hike. I am a lazy, lazy man.

i've been meaning to start a "national parks pictures" thread ... if you get your pictures up somewhere - maybe you can ...
i got back a month or so ago from zion and bryce ...
We met a long-distance runner who was doing a rim to rim to rim run in one fuckin’ day! Started on the South side, ran to the North and back again. That’s like back to back marathons on steep, knee-busting Grand Canyon trails. Scrawny little red headed hippy anyway, holy moly.
Give me a day or two, maybe the weekend, to get some pics hosted somewhere and I’d be happy to contribute to such a thread.
The wife and I need to hit Bryce, Zion, and Escalante soon.

i don't know what exact location
it was amazing
first off i would not ride a mule down a trail crafted into the side of shit that fucking high up
walking the edge of anything high is not cool for me
grand canyon... very awesome
im not fucking around up high
i remember being very slow as i approached the edge
and to me the edge was 30 feet back from the drop off into nothing
10 ft from the edge... im probably not interested in going much closer
to scare myself and make my gut sink and feel weird
sometimes i walk up to the wall windows meeting
in glass buildings and look down
instant dizziness and near vomit
fuck the grand canyon
i don't do amusement park rides either
not happenin...

so stupid
if a bucket full of gold was out there and they said it was for me
go get your bucket of gold chadwick
i would have a difficult time going out there

I ain't gonna lie, that shit is freaky. Especially the ice covered parts of the trail where you had no choice but to cross it while that drop is right there waiting...
