    Liam Finn opening for EV.
Then saw Liam Finn and loved his opener - The Veils.
The Tallest Man on Earth opening for John Vanderslice.
  • The only one that jumps out (probably because it was recent) is Alberta Cross opening for Ben Harper & Relentless 7 earlier this year. Bought their album at the show for $5 and it's very good start to finish.

The Doves, at the London Arena in 2002. Opening for, hum, Travis.

I had actually seen them in a pub in London a few weeks before, so it was no totally unintentional.

They were pretty good, although the crowd paid no attention whatsoever, what even got the band to say that their 80 year-old granny was more alive that they were. :D Shame.

Probably one of the few, if not the only, opening acts I can still recall...

Liam Finn for me too. Didn't know anything about him going in, and his performance blew me away.

I'd put Liam in 2nd though. Best supporting act I've seen that I didn't know much about was Los Lobos opening for the Grateful Dead in 1988 (David Lindley & El-Rayo X were also on the bill). All I knew about Los Lobos was their first song "Will The Wolf Survive", and was surprised with just how good of a live band they are. Been going to Los Lobos shows ever since.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Korn when they opened for Danzig, everyone was looking around like "what the hell" when Jonathan busted out the bag pipes. Too bad they've lost it.

Also M-Ward opening for Norah Jones.

  • Marah. I saw these guys (and girl) open for Driveby Truckers in July and had never of them before...unless I had forgotten. Three songs in I was sold....very Springsteen-y quality to some of their stuff, but by no means a rip off sound. They put on one of the most energetic shows I've ever seen. But I think the line-up changes a lot.

Saw a Brad show back in '98 or so and the band Headswim was opening. They blew me away. They broke up shortly after but this thread made me go check 'em out again. Really great mid 90's rock record called "Despite Yourself". I'd reccomend it

Also, saw Jack Johnson opening for Ben Harper at Lupos in RI. I think that was '00. Had no clue who he was. He just seemed so cool while performing his brand of easy, laid back rock :D
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

Ambulance Ltd supporting REM in 05 were pretty good for someone I'd never heard of but I also had the pain of enduring The Zutons  and Feeder  before the headliners....

Authority Zero opening for Everclear in Hartford in 2003.

They blew both The Exies and Everclear out of the water, landed up picking up their CD at the show, and been in love ever since.
