Pearl Jam Radio comes to Sirius/XM
10.21.10

Pearl Jam and SIRIUS XM Radio have announced today that it will introduce Pearl Jam Radio, a commercial-free music channel devoted to the music of Pearl Jam on Friday, October 22, the 20th anniversary of the band's first public performance.

Pearl Jam Radio will launch with a special airing of the band's 10th anniversary concert recorded in Las Vegas on October 22, 2000. The concert will be heard in its entirety on Friday, October 22 at 6:00 pm ET. The first day of Pearl Jam Radio on SIRIUS XM will also feature rarely heard highlights from the band's very first concert performance on October 22, 1990 at Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle, Washington.

In addition to these launch day specials, Pearl Jam Radio will feature archival concerts from throughout the band's celebrated 20-year career, rarities, unreleased material from the band's personal music library and music from the band's side projects, including solo and pre-Pearl Jam music.

Additionally, Pearl Jam Radio will offer listeners a unique, interactive experience with the weekly show The All Encompassing Trip, a fan roundtable hosted by Tim Bierman, Manager of Ten Club, Pearl Jam's official fan club, and long-time Pearl Jam enthusiast and radio veteran Rob Bleetstein. Pearl Jam fans will be invited to participate in conversations on a different theme each week pertaining to the music, news and touring world of Pearl Jam.

"Pearl Jam is unique in the history of the American music scene and has released some of the most influential music of the past two decades," said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SIRIUS XM Radio. "From their love of vinyl to their respect for their fans to their dedication to social causes, the band's continuing legacy is something we're thrilled to celebrate with Pearl Jam Radio."

Pearl Jam Radio will be available on SIRIUS channel 17 and XM channel 39; it will also be available on SIRIUS Internet Radio, XM Radio Online and through the SIRIUS XM App for the Apple iPhone, iPod touch and several BlackBerry and Android-powered smartphone devices.

For more information, please visit sirius.com or xmradio.com.

This will make me re-sign up for XM. I have always wanted to get it again just for the baseball radio broadcasts, but this absolutely awesome!!

I really hope Howard doesn't leave, but agree, it is now a reason to keep if he does leave.

Rawk. The Spectrum (Sirius/XM channel) now has competition in my car. Great was to their music to reach a broader audience.

Please broadcast the Bridge School sets live on Sirius 17! Now that's how you kick off a new channel! Do you hear me Scott Greenstein and Tim Bierman? At least put it in the planning to broadcast a few shows live during the 2011 World Tour! Exclamation point!

What does satelite radio have to do with not wanting Clear Channel to buy up every radio station? Satelitte radio is only a monopoly becaus it is cost prohibitive to create a network and it is presently a business model that isn't sustainable. Anyone one can join the game but no one wants to.
And why shouldn't Pearl Jam be alowed to make money?

The merger of Sirius and XM essentially eliminated competition in the satellite radio business. Not really different than Clear Channel buying up other stations.

I knew there was a reason why I got a lifetime subscription to Sirius a few years back (besides Sirius fantasy sports radio that is).

Sirius and XM would have both folded if they didn't merge. As mentioned before, it's not a monopoly. I can't think of a more unnecessary expense than satellite radio, so if someone is willing to pay for it (like me, but only at reduced rates) then so be it. It's not like an electric company or something people actually need.

I guess I'm not seeing the big deal here. I have every studio and/or official release plus tons of live shows. I can have Pearl Jam radio at home or in my car via my iPod anytime I want without having to pay that evil corporation $13/month. I had XM and my experience after the merger was horrible and so I cancelled as soon as my subscription ran out and I never plan to go back. My digital music collection blows them out of the water and I don't listen to sports or talk.

Big fan on XM, got it with my 2009 Honda accord and renewed after the 90 month trial. So this is just an added bonus. The decades channels are great, Lithium is great, Old school rap is great and the Virus station with Opie & Anthony, Ron & Fez is comedy gold!!!!I personally enjoy XM it goes great with my 2 hour round trip drive into work everyday.

THIS IS AWESOME!! My wife is really gonna roll her eyes on this one!!

Remember when Howard left FM radio for Sirius? He started talking about it over a year in advance.

    IMO, he's not going anywhere.

    Exactly.

If you want your music for free, or even pay for it, you can get it from Pandora, Slacker, iTunes, any number of internet sites, CDs, vinyl, etc.

    Ok, some answers here...I hope...

PJ Radio as it is now online isn't going anywhere, and will remain and continue on its quest to bring you, the ten club member and fan the greatest ongoing stream of PJ music and tour updates, interviews, etc.
And what's special about PJ Radio online is the international reach and how it brings us closer.

PJ Radio on Sirius/XM will have the same vibe, but will also be for the not so hardcore fan, as well as the hardcore ones. There will be opportunities to do things there that we have yet to explore online, so everyone should consider this a great thing for both avenues of PJ Radio. Personally, I'm really looking forward to the fan roundtable show where we can get all of you involved calling in and having great weekly topics to explore. Live broadcasts of shows? It's my dream as well as yours, so let's all just keep our fingers crossed and see where it goes.
    Rob
