I just printed this out last night and just looking at some of the quotes on the pages, this looks to be as comprehensive as it gets. I can't wait to dig into this one. Thanks in advance.

This is, bar-none, the best research anyone has done on this band's history since the Ten Past Ten article that Spin magazine put out 10 years ago. Quite frankly, I would say this is even better.

Congratulations on some superb research and presenting amazing details which even a 20 year fan hadn't heard before. :)

It's great that the band and their management have been cooperating with you so that you could produce this. Especially since the only other sources of information are so poorly written or contain fictitious and/or dubious claims for, what I would deem to be, purposes of pure sensationalism (Neely's book to be sure).

MLB really played Dollar Short live once?! I would love to hear this some time...

Agreed with everyone here. Now, can some publishing firm give you a fat advance to complete the rest of the story?

That was easiy the finest piece of journalism I've ever seen surrounding Pearl Jam.

  • Thanks again, HeavyHands and everyone. As you can tell, the figuring out the exact story of how my favorite band formed is a subject I have been really really interested in for a long time.

    a. I would love to hear that "Dollar Short" by MLB also. I can't even imagine.

    b. I was also one of the authors on the "Ten Past Ten" article in Spin in 2001. Good times. :)

    c. yay, now I go to Bridge and rock out on their Anniversary.

Fantastic article Jessica, I read it this afternoon and couldn't put it down. It also answered a lot of questions. I was always unsure of how Mike McCready came into the band. I never knew he went to Jr. High with Stone.

Great research and an even better read. Thanks for all you're hard work over the years and all the great work you do at Two Feet Thick.

Love the part where Ed is telling the story of how when they were recording/rehearsing he went out to go the bathroom. Was really missing Beth. He locked himself out of the studio by mistake, and knew that Jeff and Stone wouldn't hear him knocking. So, he sat down and came up with the lyrics to Oceans.

Such a great read about the history of our favorite band. Well done, TFT. Bravo!

CantKeepmedown- That was one of my favorite parts too.

    Two other favorite parts:

The Eddie/Jack Irons connection with Jack being Joe Strummer's touring drummer, never knew that.

Cornell's pushing McCready during the TOTD recording sessions, thought that was real cool.

Overall just a great job. Printed this out on Monday and took me a few days to get through but kept it in my back pocket and read parts at any chance I got. Thanks for putting the time into such a great piece of history, really enjoyed this.

Fantastic effort here, Jessica...thanks so much for investing the time and sharing...
loved the fact that Dollar Short was played by MLB - hope that surfaces...and the story of Ed doing Oceans to Jeff's baseline out in the damp alley was priceless...

It's fun to invest so much love, time and $$$ into this band...and it's more fun to know there are peeps like you Jess helping support the habit :)

Awesome job kiddo! (Loved your work in Spin in 01 also :))

    Enjoy Bridge...

I also liked the parts about evolution of the songs, especially about Release and Oceans, and Cornell's interviews. It's PJ birthday, and we are getting presents. Thanks.

Did anyone get an email? I was wondering if one of the 50 has surfaced. Can't wait to see if I made the cut. :D What a great effort.
  • Jessica posted this over on TFT:

The response has been amazing. We got 50 requests for the print version in the first HOUR after posting this, and they have flooded in by the hundreds since then. So by popular demand, we’ll be sending out print copies to the first 300 of you who requested them. We’ll send an email when it’s on its way to you. Thank you everyone for reading! -Jessica

THANK YOU JESSICA :D and everyone over at TFT, GREAT job again!
