http://www.twofeetthick.com/2010/10/199 ... mini-book/

There is so much more to the story of how Pearl Jam formed than has ever been shared.

To uncover it, I interviewed Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Matt Cameron, Chris Cornell and other key players, I dug up original 1990 Pearl Jam artifacts and hunted down rare audio, I triangulated dates and gathered every fact.

To celebrate Pearl Jam’s 20th Birthday, I’m proud to present the fruits of over 10 years of exhaustive original research.

Brew a pot of coffee, fire up your printer, and prepare for a long, engrossing read in unprecedented detail about the events of 1990, the year that a series of magically wild coincidences brought together the unlikely group of people that became Pearl Jam.
Highlights

Discover the amazing events of 1990

* Ed’s long-lost band with a member of Rage Against The Machine
* The Mother Love Bone riffs that survived to become Pearl Jam classics
* Eddie explains making “Momma-Son”
* The true story of Ed’s TWO “first weeks” in Seattle with Mookie Blaylock in October 1990
* Cornell talks Temple of the Dog, and Stone divulges the Pearl Jam fan-favorite that almost had lyrics by Cornell
* Stone, Jeff, and Eddie recalling the first show, first song, and first weeks
* Much, much more

    Thank you Jessica. That was an awesome read! That's the most informative and comprehensive lookback of the early days of PJ than I have ever seen. You made me feel like I was there.

    What I'm hoping too. Though I hoping as well that they include & not cut out a lot of footage of Dave Abbruzzese in the film. He was part of the band (that time) that pretty much took over the world, aka 5 Against 1. Can't deny the fact from '91-'94 the guy played behind that drum kit like never before. Listening & watching the live Pearl Jam experience between those year's, he brought a lot of energy to that stage every single night.

    I always forget about Dave A. but when i see footage with him, he hits hard, and smashes every cymbal in sight. plus he's got a great funk side to him and pearl jam were really groove oriented back then. wish they were more so now

    I just printed this out last night and just looking at some of the quotes on the pages, this looks to be as comprehensive as it gets. I can't wait to dig into this one. Thanks in advance.

    This is, bar-none, the best research anyone has done on this band's history since the Ten Past Ten article that Spin magazine put out 10 years ago. Quite frankly, I would say this is even better.

    Congratulations on some superb research and presenting amazing details which even a 20 year fan hadn't heard before. :)

    It's great that the band and their management have been cooperating with you so that you could produce this. Especially since the only other sources of information are so poorly written or contain fictitious and/or dubious claims for, what I would deem to be, purposes of pure sensationalism (Neely's book to be sure).

    MLB really played Dollar Short live once?! I would love to hear this some time...

    Agreed with everyone here. Now, can some publishing firm give you a fat advance to complete the rest of the story?

    That was easiy the finest piece of journalism I've ever seen surrounding Pearl Jam.

  • Thanks again, HeavyHands and everyone. As you can tell, the figuring out the exact story of how my favorite band formed is a subject I have been really really interested in for a long time.

    a. I would love to hear that "Dollar Short" by MLB also. I can't even imagine.

    b. I was also one of the authors on the "Ten Past Ten" article in Spin in 2001. Good times. :)

    c. yay, now I go to Bridge and rock out on their Anniversary.

    Fantastic article Jessica, I read it this afternoon and couldn't put it down. It also answered a lot of questions. I was always unsure of how Mike McCready came into the band. I never knew he went to Jr. High with Stone.

    Great research and an even better read. Thanks for all you're hard work over the years and all the great work you do at Two Feet Thick.
