anyone else make the switch from pc to mac? how was your transition?
I just switched over this summer. Got a new job and had the cash to spend. Best decision I made in a while.
I had a Dell, but got the Macbook Pro 15inch. (Im a student, so I got a student discount. they didnt verify it, so you can just go to the education store probably :? )
Still in the process of transfering files etc. The useablility of a mac is very intuitive. I love the trackpad, so much better than a Dell trackpad. I find the trackpad is better than a mouse. Took me a little bit to figure everything out, but it comes to you easily. You need to get use to the name/command changes, but once you do I can do so much more with my mac.
iChat feature is awesome. Also garageband!

uhmm.. why the 'smartass' retort? and of course thats why they have less chance but then isnt that a good thing? but another reason is that spotty virgins can't or don't know how to write a virus for a Mac.Brisk. wrote:The display is better? That has everything to do with your monitor not the machine itself, except Macs come with a DVI port however they have so many standards you gotta go buy the specific adapter.
I dont think Jeagler gives a fuck about DVI ports and what not... anyway the display has to do with more than just a monitor. look it up.Brisk. wrote:Sound? That's just the same as any onboard in a machine. Unless you talking about actual sound as in quieter, then in that case you can make any machine silent.
not true. Base model macs are almost silent... of course you could 'make' your PC silent but again i don't think the Jeagler or anyone who doesnt masturbate to Intel's theme tune could really give a fuck about spending hours 'making' their PC sound quieter by spending money on fans and stuff.
dude.. you're always so fucking angry and aggressive... you irritate me with your manner of condescension.. lighten the fuck up sometimes.
I'm not being angry or aggressive.
Well no point writing a virus for something that has such little use.
I know it does, and Mac motherboards have the standard on-board graphics like any other machine. If you referring to iMacs which has the screen inbuilt to the machine then yeah they are nice displays cos your paying a silly amount for them in the first place. So if you wanted one of those glossy screens then there are loads of TFT monitors you could get.
They aren't that quiet, I've dealt with loads of Macs and sometime they are frickin noisy, sporadically sounds like a plane is taking off. Also to note that the casing on a Mac is very thick and heavy which disguises it. You could so easily just go out and buy a silent computer easy..
I guess at the end of the day if the only thing you are doing is surfing the web and the other basic shit people do then its the same shit but in a different package. Once you get to the nitty gritty and try to actually do stuff with Macs like if you are using them in industry or if you just are an heavy computer user then you will understand how ridiculous Apple are.0 -

The only difficulty I had was figuring out a way to transfer my iTunes library (not just the songs, but the library files and iPhone apps) over and synch it up with iTunes on the Mac and then to my iPhone. But look around on Google and there is plenty of advice on how to do that.
Other than that it was a breeze to move things. iWork 2009 is very compatible with Office programs. You can start a file in Pages and save it as a Word doc. Same with Numbers and Excel, etc. I thought about getting Office for Mac but now I don't see a need for it.
It boots up in about 20 seconds.
The only thing I am still trying to figure out is the file structure and sharing files between multiple accounts on the same computer.
Garage Band is awesome.
The best part is I don't have 3 anti-virus programs constantly running and various anti-spyware programs going. And having to download drivers for this that and everything. And you don't have to go to a porn site to get a virus. Trojans exploit extreme weaknesses in Windows programs. Especially if they are older like XP or older versions of Office apps like Word, etc. Avoiding viruses by avoiding sketchy web sites is a myth.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Man... when I got my new iPhone this month (the first one i've ever owned) and found out you could use garageband to make ringtones... i must have spent 4 hours making ringtones for every contact hahahaFlagg wrote:The only difficulty I had was figuring out a way to transfer my iTunes library (not just the songs, but the library files and iPhone apps) over and synch it up with iTunes on the Mac and then to my iPhone. Use a top o' the line PC at work. Switched from PC laptop to Mac last fall. Would never, ever go back to PC.
Starting to see more and more Macs here at the hospital. (We get an educational discount when we buy them due to the Harvard affiliation.) Some clinicians in the area are starting to integrate iPads into their work.
Had PCs since the mid-90s. Had viruses on every single one. The last time I finally gave up and almost threw it out the window. Went to the Apple store, haven't had a virus yet.
I do not surf porn sites. I delete without opening emails from people I don't know, or with questionable subject lines. Spam filter set to Paranoid. But I always did that, so I'm not sure what's different, I just know it's been great with the Mac.
Only problem I have... I do a lot of physician education that's formatted from PowerPoint. When I edit on my Mac, then download and edit on the PC at work, I find odd formatting problems. Fonts are a little different, bullets indent differently. Small but annoying issues.
That's my experience, for what it's worth.

Was a PC kid forever until this January when I got a Macbook. It's fantastic!
And yes, Jeanwah is always welcome at the party. We've saved a seat for ya, unblinking and all seeing eye!"FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam09250 -
Aww...thanks guys!! I'll make sure I stop in here more often.

And yes, macs rock! Have used both macs and pcs for years and macs are just more user-friendly.

Not perfect though, the hard drive on my MacBook crashed, but I'd backed everything up on an external hard drive.
i thought macbooks didn't have a port for those things?

I used to feel this way. I've been converted. It took exactly one day."If you're looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch, you're out of luck."0 -

I switched to Macs over a year ago. I got literally the worst mac model there is (mac mini) it only has 1 gig of ram and a 1.83ghz processor and yet its faster and loads better than any horrible PC I've had. Its not perfect though, the logic board went on it and it was unusable for months until I got it fixed. the best part was that I had no warranty left nor did I have apple care and they repaired it for free!. All I did was talk them down the price and they actually ended up messing something up so they felt bad and repaired it for free. Otherwise it would've been $370.
Thats another thing about Macs, their customer service is incredible. People act like they're so expensive but they forget about the quality and great customer service they have if something does go wrong. You get what you pay for. And anyway, Apple has been lowering their prices ever so slightly and bumping up the power on all of their models.
The only thing I could say about my Mac that sucks is the graphics card. Its unbelievably terrible. But I didnt buy it to play video games, thats what my PS3 is for. So I really dont care.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10
