seriously....if you were lucky enough to be there....sweet
if not...sux to be you

Agreed! Anytime this topic comes up people try to rationalize why this was their longest show ever, when simple logic says that it is not. Even though it wasn't their longest show ever, I'm still very glad to have been there, one of my favorite PJ shows ever!

You got lucky, night 2 was easily the worst of the 3! Night one had Oceans, help help, and Bu$hleaguer. Those are 3 songs that many PJ fans would LOVE to hear live. The only thing I would have liked to hear in night 2 was Soldier of Love. That song always seems to get crossed off the setlist when I am in attendance!
night 2 crazy mary jam was awesome
and night 3 is only 1 show
With an extended full band pre-set that doesn't count towards total show length.
what a debbie downer u are to this thread..!
mikey practically spontaneously combusts during his crazy mary solo on 7/3/03!
and to suggest it was the WORST night was the final blow to any credibility rationale person would lend you...
set: Release, Animal, Gods' Dice, Do The Evolution, Insignificance, Love Boat Captain, I Got Shit, Low Light, Rival, Lukin, Not For You, Daughter/(WMA)/(I've Been Tired), You Are, In Hiding, I Am A Patriot, Once, Rearviewmirror
enc 1: Driven To Tears, Corduroy, Soldier Of Love, Crazy Mary, Alive
enc 2: Baba O'Riley, Yellow Ledbetter
notes: Really nice 'Release,' Ed's voice soaring. Ed asks how many people had been at the show the previous night and how many had seen the sun rise that morning. He continues that he did and testifies testifies to the truth in the advice to live for the moment, but that after one moment comes another, and another, and before you know it the sun's coming up, "... that's why I'm so damn grumpy ... so live for the moment, but then go to sleep ..." For 'Low Light,' Ed has a Yield booklet in his hands for the lyrics. After 'WMA,' The Pixies' 'I've Been Tired' is tagged on 'Daughter.' ' RVM' is extended. ' Mike changes to a Pedro Martinez jersey for the first encore. Ed, to the delight of many, changes into a Ramones t-shirt and Red Sox cap. Crazy Mary' gets the wine bottle passed and Boom and Mike are playing off each other -- the best jam of the two Mansfield shows -- going on and on, bringing brought the house down. The crowd goes crazy any time Boom and his Pedro Martinez Red Sox jersey appear on the big screens over the lawn and back sections. The crowd also responds well when Jeff wears a Bruins jersey as a turban during the second encore. The last three songs ('Alive,' 'Baba,' 'YL') are huge singalongs with the band looking flabbergasted by the crowd. Baba is dedicated to two prolific Englishmen: Joe Strummer and Pete Townshend ("...and Pete's innocent.") No songs repeated from previous night.

I'm so glad you resurrected a thread that had been dead for days to tell me my opinion was wrong. One show of the 3 had to be the worst. It obviously wasn't night 3, and night 1 had all the rarities. In my opinion, no solo from Mike is enough to overcome a very pedestrian setlist (other than Release). By your reaction, you must think that night 2 was the best of the 3 shows? You can't tell me that you had this reaction and only think it was 2/3, when I think it was 3/3.
Resurrect a dead thread, to over react to my extremely valid opinion of which show out of 3 was the worst, and you want to talk about credibility?!?!?!?!

Regardless of whether or not you think it was the worst of the 3 nights....pedestrain setlist?
Low Light bustout
Soldier of Love
In Hiding
Release
Driven To Tears
I Am A Patriot
Rival
I Got Shit
God's Dice
I'd hardly call that pedestrian!
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

Soldier of Love - 0

I Am A Patriot - 4
Rival - 2
I Got Shit - 11
God's Dice - 2

I was not at night 2, but have listened to the CD many times. I still think it's a rather boring setlist. I've listed how many times I've heard all the songs, nothing too rare for me on that list, especially since I'm not a huge binural fan. Release is always great. Soldier of love would be nice, but it is just a cover, don't care if I ever hear it. IMO, Nothing you list comes close to the rarities played in Night 1. Oceans is the only opener better than Release. Bu$hleaguer and Help Help are ultra rare gems. Deep, Immortatlity, In my tree, smile, present tense, and Fuckin' up to close..... great songs!
It's OK if we don't agree on how exciting the setlist for night 2 was, I can respect your opinion. I still think it is clearly the worst of the 3 nights.
Setlist wise, night 2 might not be the best of the 3 nights but I've listened to all 3 shows many times and I personally think night 2 is the best performance of the 3.
And no, I wasn't at any of the shows. Night 3 is sloppy, and night 1 is great but not as great or intense as night 2 in my opinion.

2007: Wembley, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, Nijmegen

2014: Leeds, Milton Keynes
2018: Amsterdam I, Prague, Krakow, Berlin, Barcelona, London 2022: Berlin, Budapest, Krakow, Amsterdam II
I've soured on Mansfield as a venue (security was ridiculous to us in 2008 and I haven't been back for any band since) but it really has been the site of some fantastic performances by this band. Two in '98, two in 2000, the three night stand in 2003...all of them awesome in their own way. Even night 1 in 2008 which was a little short due to curfew still featured the extended Betterman moment. If they ever put together a Pearl Jam's Greatest Hits -- Mansfield Edition package I would totally buy it.
I think both night 1 and 2's sets were just as good, if not better then night 3's. Obviously, the acoustic set puts night 3 over the top, but 7/2 and 7/3 were ridiculously good shows. The 2nd encore of night 3 was a bit weak (too many covers) but I know they were trying to get all the songs in.
Just being there for all 3 was heaven. We had gone out to MSG after the first 2 shows, and got a call from a friend telling us the news of the pre-set.
Also, I remember a story on the old message board, where Ed had been in the parking lot (in Bristow, maybe?) and had told some kids that they were planning on doing this. I wish I could pull up the old board and search for that thread. So great that the band went through with it.

The Philly shows were sloppy too. IMO, the more rarities you have, the sloppier the show is going to be. It's just the nature of the beast. My personal preference is for a slightly loose show with more rare gems, than a tight show of overplayed radio hits.
