I'm all for framing these posters, they are awesome and all but I don't get the lengths people are willing to go to frame these things...

    Hi BMo-643,

$50 have their place too. :) I'd bet there are a large number of people who consider even $50 worth of framing to be high, so it's all a matter of what someone is trying to accomplish.

Some of these posters could fit in a cheap frame from Walmart for probably $38 (yes, look on Walmart's website, they have an 18x24 frame on there now for $38). Why spend the $50 to $75 you're quoting when they could spend $38 and pick it up tonight?

To say "as a matter of fact, the parts and frames you get when you order online are the exact same parts 99% of framers are using" is not accurate - or at least, not accurate in my case.

As part of the PJ Poster Framing Special, I'm using:

Color striped real-wood frames (not available thru online framers)
Bainbridge Artcare museum quality matting (not available thru online framers)
TruVue Conservation Glass (not the cheap plexi-material used by online framers)
Bainbridge Artcare museum quality foamboard (not available thru online framers)

I would go into detail about why I use each of these materials specifically, but it would be too long for me to type out at the moment.

In addition to the above components for each frame order that I take, I'm personally holding up matting samples to get the closest match to the poster colors, calling and/or emailing everyone to discuss which colors I recommend and why, and installing the artwork in a 100% removable fashion, with no adhesives touching the art (not available thru online framers).

Conservation Glass (UV protecting glass) is not intended for direct sunlight use. Direct sunlight will fade a print, no matter what glass you use. It's intended to keep a poster from fading from general outdoor light coming thru a window and illuminating a room. It is also used to protect from UV light from lamps and bulbs inside the home too.

There's a big difference in quality, service, preservation and longevity between what you're referring to, and what I do.

Some people find, push-pins are appropriate for displaying their posters. Others an inexpensive, budget frame. Others a professionally designed, professionally handled, preservation frame job that they don't need to worry about degrading in 10 years, let alone 100+ years.

Having started working in picture framing in the 80's, I've seen a number of bad things that happen to paper artwork when not professionally framed. So, professional framing is for those who care about the quality, aesthetics and longevity of the final product.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

Thanks... I'll probably post a couple more photos on the board. :) I'm waiting for the "ok" from people before posting, and taking time to give a good clear view of them and a closeup of the frames too.

I've been getting quite a number of PM's since posting the photos, so for those interested, I'm probably going to offer a group-framing-special again very soon. :D

That's some pretty work, man. Following threads like this, as well as the "official" framed poster threads has really made me appreciate how much a proper frame job can do for our posters. So much so that I've started taking me own prints to a framer in town :D
