And even better since the Seattle series he is 16-49 or .327. Would be nice to see him bounce back here on out.0 -

Yeah, that is pretty incredible. He got there in a hurry.0 -
Sounds like the Yanks "dangled" Montero in a deal for Soria and the Royals were not interested. If that does not get it done, nothing the Yanks have will. I would not like to see the Yanks trade Montero for a reliever.0

haha, It has just been a long long time since the Yankees have had a hitting prospect of this cailber. Jeter was probably the last one. I want to see this guy play for the Yankees.0 -
Robinson Cano has always been highly regarded, especially if he developed patience. I seem to recall Torre thinking he had the potential to hit like Rod Carew when Cano first came up in 2005.Reading 2004

Yeah, Cano was definitely a legit prospect but I don't really think he was this highly regarded when he was 19-20. Once he got to the league, everyone said he could win a batting title one day but I don't remember him being on a Montero level that young.0 -

Cano age 19: 2002 with Staten Island and Greensboro: .276 (155-for-561) 15 home runs and 81 RBI
age 20: 2003 with Tampa and Trenton: .277 (147-for-530) six home runs and 63 RBI
Those are pretty decent , not Montero like but enough to generate some buzz. The biggest difference now is that nearly a decade ago, minor league info was not as easily available as it was now. Obviously the Yankees thought very highly of Cano since in 2004 they did not include him for Randy Johnson at the trade deadline. So the trade off is having a real good second baseman in five years and one World title or risking you have enough veteran pitching to win in 2004 and investing in free agents for second base from 2005 on.Reading 2004

Those numbers are not bad at all. What Montero did last year in Trenton was pretty incredible. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to take anything away from Cano. The guy is so much fun to watch play. He makes the game look so easy.
Very happy that trade didn't happen.
And definitely agreed about the level of information on prospects now definitelya dds to the hype.0
