My take on what Eddie stated at the last show on the Europe tour is....Pearl Jam will be done touring for the rest of this year...I think pearl jam will do a South American tour sometime next year..
I am also hoping for an ep and looking forward to the pearl jam documentary..
"Pearl Jam Publicist Says Eddie Vedder's Remarks About the Band's Last Show "In A Long Time" Are Nothing Serious
As we reported this morning, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder told the crowd at Lisbon's Optimus Alive festival Sunday night: "Thank you for coming to our last show. Not our last ever, but our last in a long time." But despite the ominous proclamation, longtime Pearl Jam publicist Nicole Vandenberg tells us in an email that it's nothing serious. "He says that at the end of all tours, because the tour has ended. The remark may have gotten a little lost in translation."
Pearl Jam doesn't have any shows lined up at the moment, and Vandenberg did not elaborate on any of the band's future plans, or whether they had finished their support of last November's record, Backspacer."
People don't wanna believe it and neither do I, but it came from Ed's mouth. I could easily see a year or two hiatus. Call next year a Soundgarden year after that Matt will need a break. So we might not hear any news from them till mid 2012.

Guys, c'mon. Eddie always says that at many shows and especially at the end of a tour. Pearl Jam will be back soon, very soon. Probably will do a few shows for anniversary and take some time. MUSIC is PJ's JOB and PASSION! They have been really trying to sell their records lately and I am sure they won't come out of the limelight for too long. Don't worry, it's all good. Besides we got PNC- August 4.
(Smiles) It's just like waiting for the 2010 tour announcement.

Eddie announced last night in Portugal *at least* a pause in Pearl Jam tours. Quoting his speech in portuguese "Thanks for coming to our last show. It's not the last show forever, but the last in a long time." (video below)
Some of the lyrics in Backspacer were already giving me the feeling this would be it. And The End it's such a perfect ending...'I'm here...but not much longer.' Is this it? Can it be this was the last PJ show I'll ever see?
Yeah I wouldn't worry, Eddie has been known to say things like this at the end of every major tour. Hell their 20th anniversary is next year; do you really expect them to keep quiet then? I'm still awaiting the rerelease of Vs. and possibly Vitalogy. I would also love to see a new EP or LP at some point next year whenever Soundgarden finishes whatever they have in store....
From what i have heard the band is very upset at Eddie because they wanted Scott Stapp to sing a couple of songs in Portugal hoping that the Portuguese people would do to him what they did to Nickleback.
Eddie said that he actually liked Scott better than the band and told them it was over.
My take on it is that people around here lose their minds whenever a tour ends and over analyze what Ed says far too much. He says shit like that at the end of every tour.

How no one has brought this line up is astounding to me.
Maybe his portuguese isn't the greatest?
