Evacuation

Why does this song get so much hate?
I realize the chorus may not be the best they have written, but all in all it's a good song. The verses and breaks are some of their best. The verses have a great groove to it with Stone's riff and Matt's drumming. The breaks are some of the most difficult they have written.

SportsNation Jeff Ament: (6:42 PM ET ) we can only speak to Boom when spoken to...
Maybe ppl hear it a time or two at shows and don't really get into it
But after a while, you find yourself shouting...EVACUATION!!! EVACUATION!!

Sure, the song isn't cathartic or slow building, but do they all need to be?

Absolutely right.
because it's awful. one of the worst pj tunes ever recorded.
thanks matt.
BRING BACK JACK.
Excuse me Nancy Nice.
what are the other nine songs?
Probably more songs that are over your head.
evacuation's not even over my pinky toe dude.
one of their worst songs from their worst album.
Anyway...I love this song and this album
I wish they would release more official boots of the Jack years. He is so underrated and this would help bring his genius to light.
That being said, my preference is Matt
If not being able to connect with a song means it's "over your head", here are nine tracks that are apparently over my head:
1. Foxymophandlemommathat'sme
2. Red Dot
3. That clacking noise hidden at the end of Binaural after Parting Ways
3. Evil Little Goat
4. Whale Song
5. Pry, To
6. Aye Davnita
7. The hidden track after All those Yesterdays
8. Bugs
9. Push Me Pull Me
Now, I dare you to tell me that the album wouldn't have been better with Sad & Fatal on it instead of Evacuation and, I don't know, Breakerfall or Gods Dice. Then, as said before, Evacuation would be a lost, beloved Pearl Jam b-side.

agreed. they were at their creative peak during the jack years. my main pj regret is not being able to see them live before the yield tour...
As a whole band...I agree.....but not on the drums alone. I like Jack, but Matt's range seems to be much wider (both live and in studio). The only songs that Jack really stretched IMO were who you are, in my tree and given to fly.......all beautifully done.
Binaural/Riot Act's drumming is still far more impressive to me than the No Code/Yield combo.....
you're doing a good job of putting people down that don't agree with you. tell us why YOU like it so much? shed some light on this "brilliant" tune that us simpletons don't like.
I too hears it this morning whilst playing Philly night 2. Just very average really
My favorites:
1.) In My Tree
2.) Sleight of Hand
3.) Present Tense
4.) Breath
5.) Evacuation
6.) Porch
7.) Immortality
8.) Faithfull
9.) Insignificance
10.) Cropduster

That's the worst peformance of "Evacuation" ever. It's not even worth mentioning as an actual version. Why don't you mention the State College version of "Satan's Bed" while you're at it?
