That is kinda putting the balme in the wrong place if you ask me.
I don't know all the details, but I assume RollingStone was just doing their job. And what reporter doesnt wan tto be in the middle of controversy?
If I don't like my boss, or what he/she is doing, I can speak my voice in a responsible way, not go up and down the hallways with a megaphone yelling that he's an asshole.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -

I disagree he said it infront of a reporter. The reporter had every right to write the article. He should have used more tact or not have vented to a RS reporter.
Any way RS is a rag. I had a thread that was locked because of bickering, they did not even have one PJ song in the top 500, when the likes of R Kelly and Lady Gaga are in it.96 Randall's Island II

I couldn't believe that crap either! How the hell doesn't one PJ song make the top 500 songs of all time!! Not even number 500!0 -

I have a bigger problem with The Washington Post releasing top-secret reports to the public then someone being interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine. I appreciate the freedom of speech and press, but releasing top secret reports treads the thin line of committing treason in my book.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

the guy is a freaking dolt for saying that to a reporter. he SHOULD lose his command over it. had he said it in confidence not knowing the guy was a reporter and leaked out, that would be different.Gimli 1993

Free Speech is a double edged sword... can be good, can be bad. The same holds true regarding the truth.
...
My belief is the Press should serve as the 4th Branch of government to expose things our government is doing to us, rather than doing for us. I also believe that journalism should be the founding principle of the press, not sensationalism, political partisanship, opinions or entertainment value.
But, I also believe the press should consider the nature of the truth. If, for example, there is a weakness in the security of our weapons grade uranium storage facilities, I do not think the press should reveal those weaknesses to us. I believe the competent thing to do wuld be to reveal the weaknesses to the executive branch and only reveal the truth of our mistakes, after those weaknesses have been fortified.
I believe we, the people of this nation, deserve to be told the truth about our government... even if that truth blemishes our image of how we see ourselves. But, I believe the truth, at times, needs to be sheltered from us... such as instructions on hacking computer systems and bypassing failsafe systems to launch a ballistic missile aimed at China.

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487I quit my subscription to RS when they called Cobain (when he was alive) the voice of a generation, as I'm guessing he would have hated to be labeled that. Anything to sell a mag. They stopped being relevant about the time when MTV stopped playing videos. I guess they both went out hand in hand.0

If all you want to hear about is good news... then, we need news censors... like the ones they have in places like North Korea and Iran.

What happened to personal responsibility? Why does a supposedly smart guy who stands to lose his command say things so detrimental to his self-interests? McChrystal knew what he was saying and to whom he was saying it. He knew RS would publish what he said. If he is stupid enough to say things of this nature to a reporter for an internationally published magazine, where does the stupid enough end? Right where it did end.0 -
sorry guys I'm standing my ground on this one, McCrystal should have kept his mouth shut and he got what he had coming no doubt but I also think that reporter ruined a mans career just for a story..he's a piece of shit.
I wonder if this will bring any sort of back-lash on obamas popularity with the people finding out what a top general and some of his men think of their presidents ability to manage the operations in this war ?...not saying just asking.

If any of the hard right folks were to watch something other then Fox you would have gotten the information straight from the writer of the article. The guy did several interviews yesterday and stated that McCrystal and his staff new very well what was being used for the article- McCrystal was told several times that the info he was providing was going to be used in the Article.
I don't see how this will affect Obama- His speech was clear- and his actions were just - Even John B. said he supported the Presidents actions- Obama is trying to put an end to the war or at least that is the message he is giving, and this Gen. didn't agree with that strategy.0 -

cool, thanks for the info tony and like I said the general got what he had coming but I still think the reporter messed up, I could be wrong but this wouldn't have happened back in the day because reporters knew what lines not to cross....yea yea.. I learned that on the history channel
