Probably the best band to hit in the past few years... I thought this cover was fucking fantastic.

You know, people: you're allowed to like something that isn't Pearl Jam. Eddie isn't gonna invite you over for dinner and smokes either way. :P

Gaslight Anthem is one of my favorite bands.

Is it as good as PJ's version? No. But they are a somewhat new band and its rare that anyone sounds good on TV so I don't take it that seriously.

I've seen them live twice now and they put on a great show. Pretty exciting and I think their music is amazing - it has a sense and emotions of Tom Petty & Bruce Springsteen with the angst of Pearl Jam... their first album might be my favorite album in the last 5 years.

Cool, cover. The Gaslight Anthem are great, haven't picked up American Slang yet though.

Really sad I'll miss them at Hard Rock Calling as I won't be able to get down to London early enough :(

Thanks for posting this! I would have missed it otherwise! I'm a fan on their Facebook page, so I'm a little bummed I didn't get any notice about them being on Jimmy Fallon's show... Love these guys and love their take on this song! I am looking forward to seeing them at Hard Rock Calling, and then again in LA at the Wiltern in July. They were awesome last year at the Fonda Theatre in LA, too. Definitely my favorite new band in a long time! Hope Eddie pops out on stage in Hyde Park with them like Bruce did last year! :)

I think it's awesome that they covered this song. how funny is it to see those teenage girls dancing to SOLAT? they've never even heard of pearl jam and have no idea they're listening to a song older than they are.

I also have to add that I love their new album, and am happy that they did a song about one of my favorite NJ music venues, the court tavern in new brunswick.

Court Tavern is good, but Olde Queens is better (at least when I was at Rutgers  )

Neil Young covers Dylan, Pearl Jam covers Neil Young, Gaslight Anthem covers Pearl Jam, I don't see anything wrong with any of these tips of the hats. ;) They're all done out of respect and admiration, not some cheap publicity stunt. Great to see bands like this proudly showing their influences and respect for those who've gone before.

I thought it was great. Just like I loved that Dierks Bentley (is that the name?) did Just Breath. I even liked seeing the Staind guy do Black. I don't always love the rendition, but I ALWAYS love that someone is taking a stab at some Pearl Jam.

    Please people, I'm begging you!

Don't go and Youtube Dierks Bentley doing Just Breath!

Wow...I like seeing people do covers and thought TGA did a decent job but Dierks just made me barf a little in my mouth after watching that!! YIKES

There are better versions of them doing SOLAT - at least he's not trying to do and Eddie impression.

Agreed. Either tuned down or just played in a lower key, but still very cool. I thought they did it justice while putting their own spin on it.

Only thing that was obviously not up to snuff - their lead guitar player is no Mike McCready. Lead was just okay.

The bald guy on the risers (in the front row and to the right) behind the drummer looks like he's been taking Rock Band drumming a little too seriously.

I had never considered that you could play air drums with your hands making devil horns before...

haha i thought he was the drummer for a second.

The 1st rule of a good cover is
you do not try to duplicate the original.
    Anything groundbreaking? Not really.
    A righteous homage? Absolutely.
    Cheers.
'Cause you don't give blood and take it back again.
  • Didn't like it too much. I liked it better when they did it a year or so ago in London or wherever.

I'm not into them at all but a lot of people everywhere love them so I think it's cool they do some Pearl Jam.

  • Anyone else notice he said "both sides of my brain"? Yes its nitpicking but get the lyrics right. Not a bad cover tho, guitar works a little boring.

Props to these guys, solid cover. Of course it's not the original, just like it's not when the boys cover Jimi or VH. I'm just happy some current bands are giving respect where it's due.

By the way, what is Gaslight Anthem's sound like ? Short of hearing some clips on Amazon, can anyone compare it to another sound or another band ?

A cross between Bruce Springsteen and Social Distortion.
