Disco Biscuit do not blow. They're not great, but they sure don't blow. Have you never been to one of their shows? Just awesome. Love the techno/rock angle.

what type of jam bands do you currently listen to?

Moe. is the best one out there today (2 guitars give it alittle heavier feel than bands like the dead and phish).

If you want trance/techno type jamband, the disco biscuts are good but have the sketchiest fan base I've ever seen.

Raq is very good, but will be taking a break for a while so it's tough to get into a band as they are about to take a break, but def. still give them a listen (moe. is also, but returing sometime in 2009)

As somebody who has seen a lot of jambands live, I would highly recommend moe. and the breakfast (timmy p from the b'fast is one of the best guitar players out there). And if you are into moe. and want the best weekend of your life, attend moe.down over labor day weekend...it's their festival and is amazing (not too big either which is very nice)

aint' that the truth! 5th year in a row for me. it's gonna be an even bigger blast this year given the break their taking.

    no rainboe. please ;)

Robert Randolph is awesome..... Saw him open for Clapton in Indy a few years back..... I'd forgotten about them, but they're really good!
  • Might I suggest....
    Dead Meadow
    Galactic
    moe.
    Les Claypool

Gov't Mule, Widespread, String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Dave Matthews Band (some may argue that but they can fuckin jam.) Lotus. Just to name a few.
    Shows:
    San Diego 2003
    Grand Rapids 2004
    Grand Rapids 2006
    Detroit 2006
    Columbus 2010

  • So many great ones mentioned already, and I second all of them, especially the following (I am an old school Deadhead so I am very partial to jam bands :D):

    Phish
Grateful Dead (or if you are going to live shows, any version of them or their members - The Dead, Phil Lesh & friends, Ratdog, Mickey Hart etc, etc.)
    moe.
My Morning Jacket - Their live shows are amazing and I am still pretty new to their music.
Dave Matthews Band - yes I really do still consider them a jam band and their live shows are a wonderful experience.
    Gov't Mule
    Umphreys Mcgee
John Butler Trio - I'm not sure if I would consider them a jam band, but they kind of fit the genre - they are folky with a reggae feel - another amazing live band.

All of these bands are amazing live and if you are new to their stuff you may want to just download some live shows and check them out before even trying the studio stuff. You will find many of them for legal download here:

Grateful Dead, Phish, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Ratdog

I used to like moe. but I hung out with them and Rob was the biggest asshole EVER!! Fuck those guys

Disco Biscuits are pretty good... but they are assholes as well. Keyboardist kept trying to fuck my girlfriend. She was so drunk she didn't know what was going on... and he kept having the other band members distract me so he could try to take her into another room.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.
  • I'm not a jam band fan at all. All of my friends are, but I can't handle it.

The only thing I like listening to is the album Billy Breathes by Phish. I know it's there most mainstream album, but it's also the most accessible.

Why would you see a band, walk out, then see them again? Seems strange to me :)
