Pearl Jam’s 20th in Seattle: A Brainstorm…
I was brainstorming aloud on my Facebook page for my podcast and letting my mind race since I don't have the privilege of being in NYC for MSG: http://bit.ly/a4Xm0z
October 22, 2010 marks 20 years since 5 guys took the stage for the first time at Seattle’s Off Ramp Café under the name Mookie Blaylock. And thus began Pearl Jam. With the recent midwest/northeast tour winding down, I cannot, for the life of me, let go of the hope for a 20th anniversary hometown celebration. And judging from some of the correspondence I get via the podcast, I know I am not the only fan desirous to see this happen. Many folks I’ve talked to definitely want it to happen and want to be part of such a thing – and plan to travel in should such a thing ever be announced.
So I get to thinking… Where should this happen? The romantic answer is El Corazon – the site of the original Off Ramp Café. This is, of course, completely impractical. Pearl Jam’s VIP Guest List alone would probably exceed the club’s capacity. I’ve given it a lot of thought and taken stock of local venues and the answer seems obvious to me: Safeco Field. They’ve already played every other venue in town so this would be new and yet amply accommodating – a venue as big as the occasion! No fan denied. This isn’t just a Pearl Jam milestone, this is a Seattle event. When you really sit down and think about it, this makes sense. The only real consideration would be the weather but barring some freak winter blizzard, the retractable roof should adequately compensate.
As long as I’m brainstorming aloud, I’ll take it even further – way further… One time, one time only (“OTOTO” as Ed would say) give us fans our dream line up and have Soundgarden as openers! Even at that, I realize it would still be asking too much for Matt to pull double duty all night so I got an idea for that… (Prepare to have your head explode!) Matt would play a typical opener set with Soundgarden. After a breather between sets, Pearl Jam would take the stage with Matt behind the kit to start the show. Partway through the set, Dave Krusen would show up in relief and bash out some songs off of Ten. After a while, Dave Abbruzzese takes over for a few Vs and Vitalogy era songs. Predictably, Jack Irons would get a turn and rock the hell out of some songs off of No Code and Yield. (And maybe even let Matt Chamberlain sit in for a song or two if he’s up for it.) Then bring Matt back out for the final encore. To put a serious exclamation point on the whole affair, drag Cornell out at the end for a little Temple Of The Dog reunion to finish the night with a bang!
My adrenaline is racing just typing this and theorizing such a thing. Am I crazy or would this not be the biggest and best way to recognize this date in Pearl Jam history?!

I also like the uncle Niel idea
and i from ohio
that would be epic in every sense of the word :!:
GNR pulled the same stunt here @ the Halifax Metro Centre back in '06. Axe didn't get on stage till after 1am and ended about the same time, 3:30am. Curfew isn't a problem in many forums/arena's around North America. You just have to find the right place to do it in.
I'm hoping it's not @ Vega's this October. I was there last April '08 & was totally knocked out cause of the smog, layer's of dust in the sky & smoke. It might of been ok back in '00, but it was a nightmare going there April '08. It was my first visit. Drove from LA to Vegas. Stopped by the Mad Greek. Kepted driving. When we were entering Vegas, I could see up in the sky layer's of smog. It was a desert cake in the sky. When I entered the New York New York hotel, my eye's were blood shot red. My trip there was heartbroken. If you're an asthmatic, it's not the safest place to be in.
Seattle would be a great place to have the 20th anni. A whole week of festivities! Safeco Field would be great to have the 20th anni show. I hope though the days before 10/22/10, that week they play Easy Street, Showbox & a few small venues in Seattle. That would be wicked.
And oh yeah, don't forget, all 10club member's that whole week, for one time only, one ticket per 10club member get's to visit the 10club headquarters. We get to see Santos @ the Warehouse.
LOL!
I'm guessing the guy missed Stone's sense of humor.
It makes sense to include Dave Krusen , Dave A. and Jack Irons in this 20th anniversary celebration because all three were huge reasons for Pearl Jams success through out the years. I`m totally on board for this to happen!
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
It would be awesome if they broadcasted live in HD via PayPerView their 20th anni show's for the one's that can't make it to the show all over the world.
But ya anything heavy on fan clubbers would be amazing. Shit, anything including 20% of these ideas would be unreal!
