  • First off, let's get the facts straight about the Dave vs. Matt vs. Jack battle going on.

Dave was originally a funk drummer, that translated himself into one of the heaviest hitters of the grunge era.

Jack couldn't keep up with PJ on tour - that's why he left.

Matt's style is much more staccato, with a lot of stop and go, probably due to a lot of the crazy time signatures from his Soundgarden days.

So, they were/are all pretty awesome (Dave on Deep, Jack on In My Tree, Matt on everything), but I'd say that Matt's probably the best all around and most versatile of all of them, plus he can keep up with the band.
    Pearl Jam: 9/4/00 7/1/03 5/30/06 6/22/08 6/24/08 6/25/08 8/23/09 8/24/09 10/28/09 10/31/09 5/20/10 10/15/13 8/7/16 9/2/18 9/4/18 9/5/23 9/7/23 8/29/24 8/31/24

If they slowed it down like that other guy said, the song would be great. We need Dave back DAMN IT!!!
    Go back to Soundgarden Matt!!

HERETIC! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE! Thous shalt not wish thine divine drummer Sir Matthew Cameron back to Soundgarden!

I guess I haven't really sat down and focused on the subtilties between the songs as performed then and now, but I do know that Matt Cameron is a fucking bad ass and Pearl Jam is very lucky to have him.
    I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind - E.V.
