For those of you who don't know, Paul Shirley was an NBA player, featured by ESPN's Sports Guy Bill Simmons (another big PJ fan), blogs pretty frequently at ESPN, and likes really good music.

I think he is a pretty good writer and quite witty, you may enjoy some other things he has written.

  • Man, that is a sweet article, I totally agree with this -

Apparently, these folks have been around for a while -- since 2000. Such news is always both disheartening and encouraging to me. Disheartening in a "I don't know nearly as much about music as I thought" kind of way. Encouraging, in a "there's always hope that I'll find something new and so I shouldn't kill myself today" kind of way.

That is how I feel about 2007, for about 4 years I have been regulated to the same music but this year was really a breakout year - My Morning Jacket, KOL, Silversun Pickups and Andrew Bird to name a few.

2007 reminds me of 2000, when I really got into indy music. I love getting back into the music nerd state where all you do is read about music and find out things happening.

Andrew Bird was my "where has this guy been all my life" album of the year as well.

I have been meaning to read it for a while now--read a few pages and the forward by Chuck Klosterman at the book store one day.

It seemed pretty standard Shirley--sardonic, witty, entertaining, and his casual/insightful perspective on human nature that I relate to pretty well.
