    to all you penn haters out there, sean penn was on a small fishing boat pulling survivors out of flooded homes and buildings in the lower 9th ward in New Orleans BEFORE your government even fucking responded. he saved dozens of lives by himself with one other man, a pastor who lost his church. what were you doing in the last week of august 2005? most likely nothing. the man puts his money where his mouth is and leads by example...you can at least respect him for that...and i believe THAT is the final word on sean penn...

    Did you even watch the video? I defy you to tell me he doesn't come off as a pompous douche. I'm not saying the guy has never done anything good in his life, I'm just calling it as I see it. When he was beating up reporters and screwing Madonna nobody was talking about what a great guy he was. He has proven he has the ability to be a douche and his comments in that video prove that's what he (still) is.

    beating up reporters and screwing madonna was over 20 years ago. a guy can't grow up and mature in 20 years? the video is not posted in this thread, but i have seen snippets of it. so are you saying if you won an oscar and made some brilliant movies you would not be pompous? i think money and fame would change you because it changes everyone. the man has a target on his back because he is GASP... a liberal, and he acts when even the government won't act to help people, as proven in haiti and katrina. i respect the man for what he has done for humanity and for a few of his films, into the wild, milk, fast times at ridgemont high, etc and people say things sometimes. you can call him a douche all you want, but if we are comparing good deeds i think he has you beat.

    I commend Sean Penn for his humanitarian work in New Orleans and Haiti (I'm not sure how pure his motives were, but hey, he helped relieve some suffering so good on him).

    This still doesn't excuse him from being an ignorant, self-serving douchebag of the highest order.

    This guy (Penn, I mean) really lost me when he first started to kiss up to Hugo Chavez. I commend the guy for his humanitarian work as well, although part of me thinks he just wanted to stroll around New Orleans carrying a rifle and acting like some sort of latter-day messiah. He's a non-malignant narcissist. Whatever. The guy can keep spewing sewage out of his mouth, and I can live with that if he keeps helping people (in his own special way).
