I thought folks might find the info above interesting. I will try to update it each week.

Does anyone know how to make the columns even? It's a little hard to read like this.

Great post. It would be interesting to see how high these numbers would've been had the album been released when more people bought albums instead of purchasing on a song-by-song basis or pirating. Where's Doc Brown when you need him...

Great post I was waiting for one like this for a while...Its amazing how the industry is these days... Vitalogy sells 7 million in one week... A great Backspacer album cant make 500 thousand in 21 weeks. Crazy 2010.

From 2007 to 2009, he said, there were 33 million fewer CD buyers in the U.S. and 24 million fewer music buyers in total, a 21% decrease. As the number of music buyers declined, the average amount spent by each buyer rose 2%. That implies a 19% drop in total music spending over those two years, according to Billboard’s calculations. Digital spending, on the other hand, rose 52% to $50 a year per digital buyer.

How can the total be smaller than the U.S. only number? I realize you quoted it correctly, it just doesn't make much sense to me... :?

If there was an increase in Digital music buyers combined with a huge decrease in CD buyers, it will offset the total number of buyers.

OK, now I get it, the difference is in the "CD" vs. "music"... smilie_ugly_097.gif Thanks for enlightening me!

Whered you find these numbers at? I'm always interested in how many copies albums are selling on a weekly basis, but cant seem to find that info anywhere. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough...
  • Is this US sales only?

Because if it is, it would be interesting to see how much it sold around the world... like a total count
I don't even know if there is a way to do that.... an easy way, that is

Yeah, this is US only. Last I heard, worldwide count was up over 800,000 but that was a couple months ago.

Bear in mind that, even if "Backspacer" sees a 100% increase (which would be big) after Pearl Jam's appearance on "SNL," that would still only mean about 8-10,000 units sold for that week.
