We are all ignorant. The only difference is I'm consciously ignorant... you are unconsciously ignorant.
It's sort of like talking to the guys on the television, ain't it? No matter what you say... they just ain't listening.

Since Einstein has been quoted a few times throughout this thread:
Einstein:
"I'm not an atheist, and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in a position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws. Our limited minds grasp the mysterious force that moves the constellations"

I do not understand the notion of things like "person x believes idea y, so that makes me right/wrong". Is there really a point to this?CONservative governMENt
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis0 -

no, there isn't a point if that is where the discussion leads us.
I think most of us were simply saying that the only honest thing to say about the whole "god" thing is, "I don't know." Believe what you want, have faith... fine. I get that. Do your thing and don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks. But don't tell me I'm going to hell because I don't worship Christ.
Maybe 'not believing' in god or no-god is a belief system in and of itself, but if so, it is a flexible one.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0 -

no... the analogy is that we are like little ignorant children when it comes to these questions. There is no way for the rationalist to either label themselves as an atheist OR a pantheist (belief in any god(s)) because we are just beginning to understand the content of this "huge library."Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. Since you appear to be a fan of Darwin, have you read his autobiography?
Darwin:
"Reason tells me of the extreme difficulty or rather impossibility of conceiving this immense and wonderful universe, including man with his capability of looking far backwards and far into futurity, as the result of blind chance or necessity. When thus reflecting I feel compelled to look to a First Cause having Intelligent Mind in some degree analogous to that of man; and I deserve to be called a Thiest." -The Autobiography of Charles Darwin

This thread specifically asks about Christ and the Bible. I'm sure if it was titled God....Mohammed....The Koran, then perhaps people would discuss, for better or worse, Islam.

Also, Christianity is the dominant religion in our western culture, hence the one that's most criticized.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0 -
