but wait!
my cab driver one day when i was going to school noticed i had a bronx accent and asked if i liked daddy yankee. i told him i didnt listen to that kind of music and that i listened to rock. he asked what band, i told him, and he said "isn't that the band with the dead guy?"
UGHHH!
sure it gets annoying and a little frustrating. i always get "oh yeah i used to like them but i stopped listening to them after vi... vital... you know, the third one".. but i've kind of accepted the fact that people stopped liking them and i've learned to say hey, if you want to listen to shitty music, be my guest
it makes it that much more exciting to meet someone who actually LIKES binaural
oh, and i always get a lot of "i thought they broke up" or "they're still together?" or "wasn't their last album like 10 years ago?"
ignorant fools
That cabbie's respond is hilarious!
I might use that at one of the pre-parties since not many people know what I look like.

My 22 y/o nephew said to me last week, after I mentioned Eddie's solo shows
(and hoping to get tickets etc), "Oh Pearl Jam? I only like "Jeremy", I cant stand Eddie Vedder's voice..." I just looked at him in total disbelief, here I am 40-something, mother of 3, I was speechless. Even my other sisters,
not the biggest PJ fans but they appreciate them & Eddie's voice, were like
"is this kid for real?" I think he's Dropkick Murphy fan but he used to
be a big Ramones fan, so I just dont get it0 -

I just smile and think to myself "You have no fucking idea what you're missing out on."
If they have any "redeeming value", I'll think about trying to "preach the gospel" and convert them, but if not, who cares? The fact that we are our own little subculture of fans of a band that most people don't care about is what makes us a little more special in a way. Besides, it gives us a little bit of the "Indie credibility" so much of our generation has strived to uphold! LOLI won't change direction, and I won't change my mind - E.V.

Haha. I had a similar experience. I was filling up at Wawa the other day and one of the workers saw a PJ vinyl sticker I have on my back windshield. He says, "Pearl Jam...Whats that" So I said it was my favorite band. Then he goes, "oh, is that some local band or something? I have never heard of them" So I just replied with "Not a local band...they are kind of a big deal" haha...the guy was at least 40 too???6/14/08 - Bonnaroo

I think it is strange as here I am in my 40's listening to all of Pearl Jam, and keeping up with new music and new bands, and discovering older ones that I somehow missed. Most people my age and quite younger than me do not. It just seems to be the way the average person is.
Perfectly worded! And don't worry you're not alone...there are a few more of us out there who feel exactly the way you do, myself included.
On a side note here's my funny observation on that whole "They're still around?" discussion. Most people can't remember the lyrics to a song let alone name the artist who sings/wrote the song a major percentage of the time, yet later on you'll have a discussion about movies with that same person and they will start going off reciting lines/quotes directly from random movies. Strange indeed....but to each his/her own.
Peace,

I think it's like this,
"yeah, they were cool before, (i.e.me , king/queen of the underground awesome music. I am so interesting and modern.) but now they dont even make it on my stereo, mp3,ipod, etc.
I have found other, more deserving music to listen to. But for you, oh you like them still? well, that's cool for you; I use to listen to them too(you who have no musical experience are unlike me who is all knowing and I have evolved past them. But you are not as cool as me, so yeah, rock on."Baby, You Wouldn't Last a Minute on The Creek......
Together we will float like angels.........
In the moment that you left the room, the album started skipping, goodbye to beauty shared with the ones that you love.........0
