"Yeah, I used to like Pearl Jam. Their first two albums were good then after that I didn't care for them." Does that make you instantly think that this person is an idiot, has no taste in music, or both? :)

it makes me think their musical taste has changed.
I certainly would not think they are an idiot or have no taste in music
    because of it.

actually the 4 girls next to me at Bonnaroo said they really weren't interested in seeing Pearl Jam, they just had a little time to kill. They said, "They added, pearl Jam hasn't had a new album is almost 20 years"

but I am happy to report, they loved the show along with everyone else

    like that story.
I was talking to a new co-worker the other day. He was into rock music and we chatted about Zeppelin, Ac/Dc, Metallica etc. And the he metioned Nickelback as beeing his favorite band. I mentioned Pearl Jam as mine. He responded with a.........WHO?
Help me here, how can you as a 30+ year old fan of rock music know nickelback and not PJ?

    too many times to count.

personally I believe their best work came from No Code, Yield, Binaural and Riot Act.

The people who make such statements are those who listen to the radio and bands like Incubus.

Doesn't bother me at all. The fact of life is that Pearl Jam's music as a whole isn't for everyone. We enjoy it and thats all that matters.

now if someone told me that the Beatles were better than the Stones or that Aerosmith has original talent or that Led Zeppelin can play live.....then we'd have to have a discussion.
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

Good bands are good bands. It has less to do with people's opinions, and more to do with good, original SONGWRITING. Even if people say they don't like RHCP, The Who, Cream, Neil Young, U2, you can't dispute their ability to write real songs.
People have the right to their opinion- I mean hey, this is America- but Nickelback??? Whenever someone says they like a band that I find deplorable, I say "And you like this band because ______?"

I was at a barbeque last weekend and someone said that to me..he said something to the effect if you go see PJ and they play all of the 2 first albums you are lucky..I was like huh? lol...Im a big Yield fan so that seemed ridiculous but I have a lot of people when I tell them I went to see PJ or Im a fan..they look at me all confused and say "I didn't think they were still together"

I really don't think they are idiots though...I guess they weren't really the type of fan that embraced change. :)

Statements like that just make me think some people don't seek out and enjoy music for their own sake and just go with the flow.
