The 2009 New York Yankees Thread

I am a big fan of Dave Cameron from FanGraphs.

From the Yankees perspective, this deal is almost too good to be true. Heading into his age 29 season, Granderson is a legitimate +4 win center fielder signed to a bargain contract for the next four years. I ranked him as the 22nd most valuable asset in terms of trade value in baseball over the summer, and the Yankees are getting him for a variety pack of role players. He instantly makes their team better, giving them a legitimate all-star center fielder who should thrive in Yankee Stadium. For as much as the Yankees have a payroll advantage, they continue to win because Brian Cashman targets the right players. Granderson is a fantastic acquisition for them.
.....
A+ for the Yankees, who continue to show that they know what they’re doing. Not a bad deal for Detroit, who needed to save some cash. But man, I’m sorry for D’Backs fans, who just saw their team screw up.0 -
I didn't realize Kennedy is almost 25. I am fine with losing him. He is a ways away from being a regular contributor and 25 is getting up there for a pitching prospect.0

Seems like it's a done deal as long as they all pass the physicals. This trade will definitely give the Yanks some leverage in the Damon talks. I would almost be content with Melky LF, Granderson CF, Swisher RF, and Gardner backing up. But I have a feeling they will resign Damon and trade either Melky or Gardner in a deal with Toronto for Doc Halladay.
Curious as to who the Yanks are after if they use the Nationals Rule 5 pick as their player to be named. If there were no Angels would there be no sin?0 -

No, the World just wouldn't be right unless I loathed the Yankees.0 -

Ha! I can understand that. I'm assuming your a Phils fan by your location of Lunch Meat.... I like their team outside of Rollins, but their fans started getting too cocky this year and it just got annoying....not quite to the Red Sox fans' levels though...If there were no Angels would there be no sin?0 -

Yeah, I hear you but I would definitely like to see Damon in the mix
Melky is definitely trade bait now. I just don't see how the Yanks can get a Halladay trade done without including Montero and I wouldn't do that.0 -
Curtis Granderson... holy fuck.I will be what i could be

Yeah, definitely not to the level of Yankees or BoSox fans obnoxiousness. But the difference is also we're just flat out assholes and enjoy that in and of itself. I have absolutely no problem with Rollins. It's like when people used to tell me they hated Brian Dawkins, but now all of a sudden because he's a Bronco they like the way he plays.0 -

Jimmy Rollins is a jerkoff, shut the fuck up and play the game. While Dawkins was so intense it was a bit embarassing and funny at times, he is not a jerkoff0 -
i don't know about giving up Austin Jackson. But I'm okay with Granderson.
Maybe we should move this to the new thread.

I agree with you that some of your fans meet your description. It amazes me that the Philly fans would rather root against a team then for their team. I heard more Yankees Suck chants then Let's Go Phillies chants during the series. But then again I guess anything is better then the newly muted Yankee Stadium.
With 27 titles Yankee fans deserve to be obnoxious, the Red Sox.... not so much....
Rollins needs to start letting his game do the talking for a while, maybe Chase can give him some lessons on how to deal with the media. If there were no Angels would there be no sin?0 -

What do you guys think of getting my favorite Tiger, Granderson. As a Tiger fan I don't like the deal because I love Granderson and Jackson was all we had after Verlander. I've heard Yankee fans don't like it giving up all those prospects but prospects are overrated.Go Get 'Em Tigers!0
-
I like it for a few reasons. One is a selfish reason as a media guy as he is among the game's most personable players and loose easy-going personalities from good players is not overrated, especially on the Yankees. Another is that when half your games are at Yankee Stadium and when you pull the ball 50 percent of the time, that's a good thing also. Plus, I figure Granderson is more like the .275, 20 homer type than the .249, 30 homer type with the low on-base percentage.
As for Jackson, you have to give up something to get something and that's the risk you take. Ideally, you'd have liked to have kept him, but if he develops into the player projected for him, in six years (assuming he makes the Tigers next season), Granderson will be 36 and Jackson will be a free agent.Reading 2004

Damn, Yanks are getting it done. Pettitte signed for one year, $11.75 mil. Not too many holes left. I would like to see them resign Damon and add some pitching but looking pretty good so far.0

The Yankees got a good one in Granderson, as a long time Tiger fan, this trade sucks and is a salary dump. You Yankee fans will love Granderson.I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... George Carlin
