I'm 19. Been a fan for almost two years. Most people I know hate them because of the Ten-stuff. But I know quite a few who appreciate Life Wasted (no wonder ^^). I think that a lot of people who dislike songs like Jeremy, Even Flow and Alive would love No Code-Riot Act. It's a shame that they are still associated with the cocky Ten-sound.0

yea most radio stations are junk but the local one in vancouver plays alot of good stuff (also some crap but they have too appeal to more than one genre) but still better than most, including at least a couple PJ songs while im at work0 -

I'm 20. Everyone I know knows me as the kid who loves Pearl Jam. I've gotten quite a few people to become big fans. I haven't found a person yet who listens to them and says they don't like it.

Our son (16) and daughter(18) love PJ and some of their friends too. Most of their friends have never experienced a "real" concert experience before... Starting in the parking lot at 11:00am, the atmosphere, singing louder than the band, all those things that happen at the PJ concert. We've decided to bring our 16 yr old and his friend to Camden. The friend loves the songs on the radio, but doesn't own any cds. I'm sure his friend will be hooked after that. He'll be spreading the love, I'm sure.I will hold the candle until it burns up my arm. I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired. I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind. I won't change direction and I won't change my mind.0

i'm 29 and working on my 15 year old niece. i'll listen to her Paramore (which is a pretty good band - imo) and she's starting to listen to Pearl Jam on her own, not just when she's with me. i get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.
anyway, my little rant with some of the younger crowd. i hate when you're trying to tell them about pearl jam and they say - oh, that band that sounds like nickelback? then i'm like - NO! Pearl Jam came out in the 90's, what is wrong with you people? No need to be void, or save up on life...
You got to spend it all0 -
I'm 18. All my friends like PJ too.0

I'm 18 and have loved the band since I was 13 or 14. In the last year or 2 I've definitely noticed more young fans. It used to be very rare for me to find someone my age that had even heard of them.0

Awesome. Great responses. Thanks!
How do you young people hear about new (or new to them) bands? Radio pretty much sucks. MTV and VH1 are pretty much all reality shows. Is it just word of mouth, someone "passing it down" to you? Or does online stuff make a big difference? I'm just really curious how a band like PJ gets the word out these days about what they're up to.Sam0 -

I never understood the whole "last kiss" thing....no not cuz its so popular, but cuz its so NOT popular. NO ONE i know, knows "last kiss". All my friends "make fun of me" by imitating jeremy or evenflow....honestly, who the fuck knows "last kiss"...that song sucks on so many levels anyway.
OH...im 19 and turning 20 this year if that helps.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

i'm 20, and a lot my friends, while not major fans, at the very least appreciate the band, and enjoy it when I play their music or watch a dvd. I'd say the most popular song with people who aren't major fans is elderly woman. As far as finding new bands, for me it's a lot of word of mouth with a select group of people that I deem to have good taste in music, and a few key online sources. I haven't listened to the radio or actually heard music on mtv etc. in years, so youre right on about that"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."0

I recently turned 25 and honestly I thought I was on the edge of the spectrum for being a young fan... then again, I have been listening since I was about 8 or 9... it's really awesome to see PJ appealing to teenagers these days...
I'm curious how most young people got into them if not for an older sibling or parent... how did you discover them?0 -
I'm 19 and only really discovered them further than their radio hits a couple of years ago. Most all of my friends don't really know much about them, but like and know a lot of their stuff when I play it for them. Save my closest friend, who loves them as much as I do.
The way I normally get into music is word of mouth. I still enjoy owning CDs as opposed to just downloads, but I would say that I am definitely in the minority. Most everyone just borrows their friend's CD and rips it to their iTunes.
Everyone keeps saying "radio sucks"... and I agree... but I have XM Radio and I love it. It plays great stuff, and I've discovered a large portion of what I listen to through it.
The way I found Pearl Jam, was through The Who. I bought their "Live at Royal Albert Hall" CD which Ed sings on... I liked his voice a lot, decided to check out some of his stuff, and was surprised to find that I knew and liked quite a bit of it... and the rest is history. All the rusted signs, we ignore throughout our lives, choosing the shiny ones instead...
And he who forgets, will be destined to remember...0 -

8 or 9 are you kidding me? I was still being a kid at that age. lol0 -

lol, well... I've kind of explained this before on here...
but when I was that age I had gotten Ten for xmas, I was really into all sorts of music... I didn't even ask for it.. my mom just got it for me along w/ other tapes of popular artists at the time... I just liked the music, had no idea what it was about until years later... I became more of a diehard that I am now around 95-96 in the merkinball/no code era...
hope that makes sense.... I also had an older cousin who was into them, I think he may have tipped my mom off.0 -

That does explains it.
I have a older cousin that got me into the dead at the age of 13 or 14. Took me to shows in 94 and 95. I was a fan of PJ but didn't get into them really until the summer of 2000.0 -
I forgot about XM. I haven't used satellite radio a lot but when I did I really liked it.Sam0

I'm 21. I've liked the band since I was five (mom played them) but wasn't really....into them (knowing all about them, watching the tour closely, being obsessed...etc...) until I was about...15-16.
As for new music...I don't. I don't try to purposely not listen to new stuff but I listen to old stuff. Classic rock type stuff.0
