Young fans?

Pardon my n00b status, but I was curious if anyone had any idea if Pearl Jam was getting any newer, young fans coming into the fold. I'm mid-30s and have been listening to the band for years of course, but are "kids today" getting into quality music like PJ at all? I'd like to think the band's fanbase is still growing.

I was very happy to see so many teens come all the way from Israel to see them in Europe last summer... Yeah, so young and know what's good for them... More and more joining the Israeli PJ club all the time... Take that Stone!

    Thanks! That's good to hear.

One more question, there is a lot of talk in the media about how the younger generation has ditched CDs in favor of downloads and digital media. Do you think PJ would get more of a younger crowd if they had a larger digital operation? I don't know what that would be exactly but I wonder if that is an essential part of today's music biz. Not overdoing it of course, but just something more substantial.

It's just kinda weird to think that the band and even myself are moving into what might be considered an "older crowd" and old media category.

I homegrew one and started taking her to shows when she was 8. She is now almost 14 - she'll go with me to MSG and Hartford. I don't know if she'd have discovered them herself though - they're all busy listening to MCR and Paramore. My older offspring likes them too and will be going with me to Camden (she's 18).

17 here. I've been into Pearl Jam ever since I can remember. A lot of my friends have heard of them but they're too engrossed with the contemporary rock stuff like Panic at the disco and whatever else is on MTV and Fuse. (blegh)

Great to see all you "kids" into Pearl Jam! Here's a laugh for you. I was at a bar last night watching your typical alterna-rock cover band with a friend and his stepson who recently turned 21. The band started singing "Everlong" and the kid turns to me and says, "Isn't this by that Foo Fighter band?" :)

yea im 21 and just about everyone I know thats around my age or younger are into that music. When I got Eddie Vedder tickets I Had to ask 4 people before someone didnt say "Whos eddie vedder?" And when I say hes lead of PJ the only song they can think of PJ doing is last kiss. Its all MTV's fault in my mind.

I'm 19. Been a fan for almost two years. Most people I know hate them because of the Ten-stuff. But I know quite a few who appreciate Life Wasted (no wonder ^^). I think that a lot of people who dislike songs like Jeremy, Even Flow and Alive would love No Code-Riot Act. It's a shame that they are still associated with the cocky Ten-sound.

yea most radio stations are junk but the local one in vancouver plays alot of good stuff (also some crap but they have too appeal to more than one genre) but still better than most, including at least a couple PJ songs while im at work

I'm 20. Everyone I know knows me as the kid who loves Pearl Jam. I've gotten quite a few people to become big fans. I haven't found a person yet who listens to them and says they don't like it.

Our son (16) and daughter(18) love PJ and some of their friends too. Most of their friends have never experienced a "real" concert experience before... Starting in the parking lot at 11:00am, the atmosphere, singing louder than the band, all those things that happen at the PJ concert. We've decided to bring our 16 yr old and his friend to Camden. The friend loves the songs on the radio, but doesn't own any cds. I'm sure his friend will be hooked after that. He'll be spreading the love, I'm sure.
I will hold the candle until it burns up my arm. I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired. I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind. I won't change direction and I won't change my mind.

i'm 29 and working on my 15 year old niece. i'll listen to her Paramore (which is a pretty good band - imo) and she's starting to listen to Pearl Jam on her own, not just when she's with me. i get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it. :D

anyway, my little rant with some of the younger crowd. i hate when you're trying to tell them about pearl jam and they say - oh, that band that sounds like nickelback? then i'm like - NO! Pearl Jam came out in the 90's, what is wrong with you people?

I'm 18 and have loved the band since I was 13 or 14. In the last year or 2 I've definitely noticed more young fans. It used to be very rare for me to find someone my age that had even heard of them.
