Best concert i have been to. this was my first PJ concert. Was quite a way back, we had 10c tickets but wanted to be with friends so did not queue early. Man these guys are amazing live which i knew they would be but far out. Mike oh shit i could watch you play all day. Was happy with the set list. Would of loved them to play Black, Nothingman, and Nothing as it seems. Next time maybe. They promised it would be only 1, 2 or 3 years in between this time. Loved it at he end when everyone come out to do KORFW, they all looked so happy it was so heart warming or something.
My only gripe is some of the people, we got there found our spot and thats where we staying all night, what is up with pushing you way past with a chain of 5 people and then half and hour later pushing back past the other way, Im sure my back had a sign on it "path through this way".
Next time i hope to be right at the front or sitting down. Love for them to do a smaller venue.
But still a awesome night, thanks Pearl Jam please please come again soon.0 -
Talk about going out with a bang! That was a masterful performance by the boys on full throttle almost the entire night! Another great opener to get the crowd right into it, and another massive 30,000 - incredible turn out for PJ here in NZ after all these years.
The first set didn't really ease up at all - it was epic! Great to hear Once and then blown away to hear Tremor Christ, but then In MY Tree too - speechless! Highlight for me I Got Shit. The End was another one of those moments to treasure and despite hearing Ben duo on Indifference on so many boots, seeing it live was incredible.
The second encore capped off what felt like a big party to end the tour with everyone up there for RitFW.
Me and my three bros rockin out at the front of the 2nd T-barrier - great spot - full unobstructed view of the stage, plenty of room to jump up and down and no muppets trying to push through! Rain was really light and didn't put a dampner on things at all, cold though after Auckland!
Very special weekend, hopefully the boys hold to their word and come back much sooner next time!!
A big shout out to all the 10 Club folk we met over the 2 gigs and especially everyone partying until the wee hours at Fat Eddies last night!0 -
THE most EPIC setlist - it's like they said, Topaz, what would you like us to play and then played them, one after the other...
I got my biggest wish - In My Tree, just amazing. Also - Garden! Tremor Christ! Once! I Got Shit! Marker In the Sand! And, I Got You, hope we all realise how lucky we are to hear songs like that live and by the people who wrote them...alongside people like PJ
Had to laugh when the houselights came on (hint hint from the bosses, time to go home) and they just kept on playing
Fuckin freezing until they came on, then we all just went so crazy who could think about things like rain or temperature anyway?
Loved Ed's commentary on what a good looking bunch we are
|Cannot WAIT for the boots of this one! As I said in the auckland thread, I'm so grateful to everyone involved, and that means you too if you were there, two of the best concerts of my life in one weekend.
Well done Aotearoa for showing the world we can rock out as hard as anyone, and for proving that 11 years is just too long. Can't wait to see you back here, PJ.
Nga mihi ki a koutou!!0 -
Don't forget Cinnamon Girl by Liam Finn w/ Eddie, and Under Pressure by Ben Harper w/ Eddie! amazing0

Great concert!
I was 2nd row of 10clubbers back in front of Mike which was my main goal at the start.
Liam Finn was insane and really a great live act. With Eddie joining in for a song and Neil running on stage and stand up a mic it was quite a 'fun' performance.
Ben Harper was solid, I was extremely happy to here Faded but missed Ground on Down (I don't know a lot of Ben.) Most people seemed blown utterly away by Under Pressure which was great.
Now Pearl Jam...
The crowd surge wasn't as bad as I expected, some girls had spent the entire night trying to push in but we did well to keep them behind us. Sadly a guy passed out and when my mate and I parted to let them through a whole lot of people rush in behind to fill the void leaving my mate about 4 to 5 rows back. But luckily I wasn't moved too much and spend the night standing beside a female 10clubber (I am sorry I forgot to get your name  ) who was in the earlyish stages of pregnancy and we managed to have room to move up until the final encore.
Some girl rushed up to the front during Alive and stole the guys beside me spot which was fucking rude in my opinion but I suppose the part of GA.
The boys were on fire from the start and I got my Mike McCready moment in the first song. It's amazing how cool a simple point and point back from one person to another can be epic enough to make someones night.
To use 80s slogans and metaphors to measure the first group of songs it is a blur of awesome, radical and bodaciousness wrapped in neon PVC and big hair. So pretty epic really...
I missed Corduroy or some somg similar to 'start' the night I suppose but that wasn't a drama after the first line of Given to Fly was already out of my mouth (which for the people surrounding me was great because the sound of PJ would have blocked me out.)
The encores rocked, the boys weren't off stage for long as all and you only had a short time for conversation before they were running back out.
The last encore was superb (I didn't know The Real Me so I felt like a douche) with the Finns giving their countrymen a bit of Crowded House and Split Enz (wanted I See Red as the chance was higher having 2 Finns there) and a great group effort of RITFW with everyone on Stage arming themselves with Tambourines.
I hoped we impressed them, it's nice to know they had just as good of a night as any of us.
And finally the most epic part (equal to the McCready point though)...
Singing Happy Bday to Matt was cool (I share his bday) but as we were leaving my mate suddenly passes me none other then one of the drumsticks Matt was using(they threw a whole lot later on but this was one of the all nighters.) He said he timed his jumped perfect and it was down this pants before anyone had known.. they were looking at his feet...
So now I have a very cool poster, 2 tickets and a drumstick to frame...
Biggest downside of course was having my partner being 8 mths pregnant and having to sit in the stands. The boys haven't been here for a while so that was a major bummer for me (we went to Brissy in 06 so she got seats with me then.)
Bring on fenced off 10 Club areas!
I'll be adding more once I get over it!NZ Pearl Jam Fan0 -

Could your elbow have not made a (slightly harder perhaps) connection with her face as well? :twisted:0 -

Amazing, amazing, Amazing!! What a fantastic concert!! We were a long way back so didn't even get to see the boys but the screens were great & had a really good view of them & the music made up for it!! Was surpsrised at how many Ten songs there were - would have loved Cropduster, Light Years & RearView Mirror but hey whos complaining - was bludy fantastic!! Take my hat off to Ed - he did fantastically considering his voice did sound a little strained at times from him being sick. Thanks so much guys - cant wait for you to come back!!!"There's no wrong or right but I'm sure there's good & bad"0

my first pearl jam concert ever and it was damn worth the wait
as soon as eddie jumped on stage with liam and ej to sing cinnamon girl it was ON! i totally freaked out! great cover. it was the start of many screams in the crowd. then he went and did it again with ben for under pressure-brilliant also. i managed to get 8 people rows from the front (i wanted a barrier spot but was too slow good on you dedicated jammers who cued at 7 am) so i had some boof heads in front of me that clearly needed a haircut! and they were TALL as well! but hey thats what you get for GA. no complaints cos i had the time of my life.
so pearl jam finally hit the stage and you can imagine the uproarheard the first notes of given to fly and it was ON! the crowd started moshing which got a bit out of hand for the first couple of songs. a few drunkin fucks in the crowd jumping into to everybody and even a fight broke out. we all tried signalling the band but no luck, security soon sorted it out. no problems there. crowd favourite was clearly the fixer cos everybody knows this song now thanks to high rotation
better be home soon made me shiver it was so heart warmingly beautiful-full on crowd sing along with eddie looking a little bewildered with the participation from the crowd. i was actually amazed with just how loud the crowd was so amny songs ed just let us sing it. jeff had a cheeky smile on his face during one such time which made me sing even louder. mike was teasing the crowd with his finger pointing i so thought he was gonna throw out heaps of picks to all he picked out-but no he was just teasing it was cute and funny as hell. he thought so too you should have seen his face
i didnt see ed smoke once must be his cold. theres so much more but ill remember that later.

haha, those guys needing the haircut were in front of me too, they kept flicking it around in everyones face!!!

great to hear tremor christchurch played!!!
went spastic during i got id and also my fav state of love!!!!
crowd really got into the fixer which was awesome, i had to look around a few times to see all the happy faces
got some awesome photos and vids also, was great to be so close as I was a bit sick in melb and didnt get too close
sure hope its not too long till they come again1998 Wellington

I really don’t get it. After seeing Pearl Jam at Rod Laver a few years ago, I couldn’t wait for them to finally come to New Zealand, but especially Christchurch was just one huge disappointment. For all I know they probably played extremely well, and the setlist was obviously great - but the sound was so shit I left after an hour, feeling heartbroken. Everything was just one big wash, and at times the echo off the back of the stadium was so bad that the songs were pretty much unrecognisable. I really don’t get why nobody has mentioned this so far. At previous PJ concerts I have felt nothing but exhilaration and happiness. Last night I felt nothing. Walking out on Pearl Jam was something that I never thought I would do, and I left the stadium with tears in my eyes. But when you’re faced with a choice of hearing your favourite songs being butchered by a shitty sound system, and preserving your memory of what a proper Pearl Jam show is like, walking away was the only reasonable thing I could do.0

What an incredible experiance. I've been waiting to see PJ since being an angst pre teen adolescent in '93 and now that dream has been realised. I still feel a little gobsmacked by the whole experiance and can't stop grinning.
Aside from the obvious cameo's and big hits, the songs of the night for me were Tremor Christ, The End, Marker in The Sand and In My Tree ( and not the slowed down version either, but the original No Code styles). Fucking magic.
Big ups to all the fan club members around me. You were all such choice and genuine people, looking out for the little guys and gals, ferrying water into the mosh, helping out the security when that fight broke out. You all definitely enhanced my enjoyment of the concert. Cheers guys.0 -
Loved it...first PJ concert ever. But worth the wait. I was in the right hand side area, by the fence, about 5 people back, couldn't have been much better.
There were a few chicks who reckoned they would try their lucky pushing through, but those who were there at the start held strong and sorted them out...got a bit intense in the first few songs as someone mentioned, but was all good.
A night to remember....0 -

Im sorry you had this experience but i can tell you the sound was just fine. Im also saying this as a professional musician. You needed to be face on to the stage though. There will always be slap back from a stand facing the stage. Ive been to many MANY pj concerts and last night was up there as quite possibly the best. Did you try moving positions to see if you could get better sound? Walking out should have been a last resort.0 -
had the same problem with sound as maria.. the echoing of the back of the stadium... SO WE MOVED... further to the left and forward and the sound was great... was also at rod laver arena during their last tour... actually this was my 11th PJ show... and this one (equal with a 3 hour gig in 2005 at gorge, washington state) was the best so far...0

This was my 14th PJ concert...
by far the crowd was the best one for sure! Everyone going off but no problemas at all. 10 clubbers were all bloody awesome.
Special thanks for a club member, frinkyPJ (as I remember) for giving me a EV pick after the concert, thanks mate!!!
Just got back home and uploading some vids on youtube : zezito777
-Interesting fact, i've recorded a few songs that my camera fuddded up... just found out right on in the middle of I Got Shit. After that worked fine.... So, 1/2 Full of shit! The rest i'll be uploading for you guys!
Keep on Rocking was amazing with everyone on stage.
Eddie and the boys were having a great time... as was I and everyone else in there. The weather was not good, but I reckon it made the night more special.
Also, one of my highlights was Indifference. The way that Ed and Ben put it together was bloody awesome.Post edited by zezito on"...take care of a couple of requests...one is from last night...I don't know if you are here again tonight...this first one...I'm not gonna tell you!"
EV Adelaide 22-11-2006 ... yep I was there ... THANKS!0
